Warmth Under the Leaf

The black ant Big Head and the yellow ant Big Bucktooth started fighting again over a trivial matter. Big Head rammed his hard head into Big Bucktooth, while Big Bucktooth grabbed Big Head and bit him on the shoulder. Despite the pain, Big Head launched another attack on Big Bucktooth… Just as the two were locked in a fierce battle, “Whoosh…,” it started to rain.

“Hurry and find some shelter, or we’ll be washed away by the rain,” Big Head and Big Bucktooth stopped fighting.

A leaf fluttered down in front of them, carried by the wind and rain. Both Big Head and Big Bucktooth quickly crawled under the leaf at the same time. But they were still angry with each other, so neither paid attention to the other. Big Head stayed on the far left of the leaf, while Big Bucktooth stayed on the far right, keeping as much distance between them as possible.

As the rain grew heavier, both ants tried to avoid getting their clothes wet. Big Head scooted inward a bit, and so did Big Bucktooth. Night began to fall, and the rain continued. Big Head started to feel cold and shivered, pulling his neck in: “When will the rain stop? It’s so annoying!”

“Achoo!” Big Bucktooth let out a big sneeze. “I want to go home! I’m hungry.”

The night deepened, and it got colder and colder. Big Head was shivering, and Big Bucktooth curled up into a ball.

“So cold!” Big Head and Big Bucktooth scooted closer and closer until, without realizing it, they ended up right next to each other.

“Oh! Much warmer now!” Big Head said.

“Yeah! It doesn’t feel as cold anymore,” Big Bucktooth replied.

In the darkness, Big Head and Big Bucktooth hugged each other tightly for warmth.
