True love and sacrifice

They met online by chance. She was often unhappy, and he racked his brains to relieve her distress and make her smile. Although she knew he had a wife, she believed he was her true love for life.

So, she wanted to meet him and become his wife. She even sold her house and moved to his city, waiting for him to free himself from his marriage.

He was moved by her and decided to come clean with his wife. He said he couldn’t betray her love, so he wanted a divorce and to give her a happy, warm home. His wife listened silently, without crying or making a scene, just quietly mopping the floor.

He became anxious and asked his wife, “Say something, will you? Are you going to divorce me or not? What does keeping silent accomplish?”

His wife stared at him blankly and asked, “Are you really so eager to divorce me?”

He nodded and said, “Yes, I love her. I want to be with her. No one can stop me. Even if you don’t agree, I will file for divorce in court.”

His wife finally couldn’t hold back her tears. She gently put down the mop, took a piece of paper from her pocket, handed it to him, and calmly said, “There’s no need for a complicated divorce. The doctor said I only have six months to live, and now there’s only one month left… Can you wait a little longer?” After speaking, she continued to mop the floor, tidying up the house bit by bit.

When he unfolded the tear-stained cancer diagnosis, he was utterly stunned, staring at his wife’s slow, somewhat staggering figure. Was she in pain? Was this how she endured the daily pain while cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning for him without a word? His tears fell in large drops onto the floor. Suddenly, he reached out and slapped himself hard, hating himself for neglecting his wife and forgetting how to love her.
