True Beauty Revealed
In a beautiful forest, there lived a little kitten with snow-white fur, soft like a ball of fluff when she rolled on the ground. Her eyes were like gems, shining with a mysterious light. Everyone praised her for being pretty, so they named her “Meimei,” which means “beautiful.”
Meimei was famous in the forest, and all the animals loved to play with her. Whenever the mothers talked about their babies, they would say, “My baby is so cute, but it would be even better if they were as beautiful as Meimei.” Hearing all these compliments, Meimei believed she was truly good-looking. However, she had never actually seen what she looked like.
One day, a little bear named Kaka invited Meimei to go to the amusement park. As soon as they entered, wow! There were so many things that Meimei became dazzled. Meimei walked up to the funhouse mirror and saw many little animals laughing and giggling. What were they laughing about? Looking directly into the big mirror, she saw an ugly little cat reflected back at her. Its face was bumpy like a walnut, its mouth was twisted like a crooked gourd, its nose was long and thin like a scallion, and its eyes? They were triangular… Oh no, how ugly! “Who is that?” Meimei asked. “That’s you!” said a little hedgehog. Meimei couldn’t believe it. She clapped her hands and jumped up, and the little animal in the mirror did the same. Seeing this, Meimei burst into tears and ran out of the amusement park…
A swan saw her and kindly asked, “Hello, little kitten, why are you so sad?” The kitten replied, “I’m sad because I’m ugly.” The swan led Meimei to a stream and told her to take a look. Reflected in the water was an adorable and beautiful little cat. Meimei suddenly realized that the reflection in the stream was her true self.
A little chick walked by, singing a song specially made for the hedgehog. Meimei said, “Your singing is so lovely!” “Yes! The hedgehog is so cute, everyone loves him,” said the chick. “Why? The hedgehog is so ugly…” the kitten asked in confusion. The chick shouted, “You’re the one who’s ugly! The hedgehog is helpful to others, that’s why he’s beautiful!” The little squirrel and the little rabbit overheard and disagreed with Meimei’s opinion. Meimei asked the swan, “Why do they say the hedgehog is beautiful?” “Because he has helped many animals,” the swan replied. Realizing this, Meimei apologized to the animals and went home.
