The Words on the Paper
A little white rabbit was playing in the forest when it found a piece of paper with four words written on it: “A old wolf.” The little rabbit was so scared it trembled. It ran back home as fast as it could and told its mother, “Mom, Mom, there’s an old wolf in the forest, look, look!”
The rabbit’s mother looked at the paper and was also frightened. “This is serious,” she said, “Quick, tell all the friends in the rabbit village.”
Before long, all the friends from the rabbit village came to see the paper, and many rabbits were crying in fear.
“Oh no, my baby rabbit is only two days old, what should I do?”
“Oh no, my leg is lame, I can’t run fast, what should I do?”
The village elder, Old Grey Rabbit, arrived and carefully examined the paper. “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid,” he said, “This is only half of a paper, we don’t know what’s written on the other half yet. Little white rabbit, where did you find this piece of paper?”
“In the small forest.”
“Let’s go together and take a look.”
Little white rabbit led Old Grey Rabbit and many other rabbits to the small forest. Old Grey Rabbit said, “Everyone, look around, there must be more pieces of paper here.”
Everyone searched and searched. A keen-eyed rabbit found another piece of paper with the words “has come” written on it.
When the two pieces of paper were put together, everyone was shocked. Oh no, an old wolf has come, run quickly! The rabbits with fast legs ran away, while the slower ones and the rabbits with lame legs cried loudly, “An old wolf has come, I can’t run, what should I do? What should I do?”
Old Grey Rabbit couldn’t make a decision because the message was very clear.
A little squirrel heard the crying and asked, “Why are you crying?”
Old Grey Rabbit said, “An old wolf has come, we’re in trouble, look at this piece of paper.”
The squirrel looked at the paper and said, “This paper is not complete yet, look, there are torn edges here, keep looking, there must be other pieces of torn paper.”
Old Grey Rabbit carefully looked and understood, then quickly called the other rabbits to continue searching. But they searched for a long time and found nothing. A giraffe came and asked, “What are you looking for?”
“We’re looking for pieces of torn paper.”
The giraffe looked around and said, “Look, there’s a piece of torn paper on that branch.”
The rabbits looked up and indeed, not far away, there was a piece of torn paper on a branch, fluttering in the wind. They had only been searching on the ground.
The giraffe fetched the paper, and Old Grey Rabbit pieced together the three torn pieces. Ah, now this was a complete piece of paper. It read: “An old wolf has come, but I killed it, don’t be afraid.” It was signed by “Little Hunter with the Magic Gun.”
Ah, so the old wolf was already dead. The rabbits happily resumed their games, and the ones who had run away also returned. Of course, they also invited the squirrel and the giraffe.
