The Tree Castle
Amo secretly chopped down a small tree, as it was too small to make anything other than a small stool.
He was quite proud because the small stool was sturdy and beautiful, especially with those four table legs. They were carved with patterns, thick and short, sturdy enough to withstand a thousand pounds.
As soon as the small stool was finished, something strange happened. The moment the stool legs touched the ground, they took root, and green buds sprouted from the four legs. The buds quickly turned into leaves.
The stool surface was no longer smooth either; it grew a layer of green leaves. Amo tried scraping and cutting them off with a knife, but they grew back as soon as he cut them off.
Not only did branches and leaves grow, but the four stool legs also grew taller and taller.
Amo sat on it, thinking he could prevent the stool from growing higher, but the stool lifted Amo as it continued to grow, reaching the roof in no time.
Amo hurriedly jumped off the stool. At that moment, with a loud crash, the small stool broke through the roof and kept growing, higher and higher, straight up into the sky.
Now, the small stool had turned into a large house. The house was surrounded by green branches and leaves, looking like a small green wooden house from afar.
Amo was delighted. A small stool had turned into a small wooden house, and he thought it would be wonderful to live in it.
Amo walked towards the small wooden house with big strides. As he approached the entrance, he suddenly realized there were gatekeepers. Looking closely, he saw it was two little hedgehogs guarding the door.
Amo didn’t pay much attention to the hedgehogs and continued walking in. At that moment, he heard a series of squeaky sounds.
The small wooden house kept growing and had now become a large house.
What was even stranger was that the hedgehogs grew along with it, becoming as big as dogs.
“No entry!” The hedgehogs bristled their spines, which now looked like sharp spears.
Amo was frightened and ran away from the large house.
From a distance, Amo watched the large house, which continued to grow, becoming a magnificent green castle.
Amo was stunned. He didn’t dare approach it, only watching it from afar.
He saw a goat coming.
He saw a bear coming.
He saw a group of little monkeys coming.
They greeted each other, congratulating themselves:
“This is great; we finally have a home.”
After a while, a tiger came, followed by a lion.
The animals that arrived first were a bit scared.
The tiger said, “Don’t be afraid; I won’t eat you.”
The lion also said, “Yes, yes, living in the castle means we’re all family!”
Just as they finished speaking, an elephant arrived. Its footsteps echoed with a “thud, thud,” shaking the ground. Its large ears flapped like big fans.
When the animals saw it, they all called it Big Brother Elephant.
Later, flocks of colorful birds flew in, landing on the flower-covered roof of the green castle.
Amo saw the animals happily moving in, living together in harmony, and envied them.
He really wanted to visit them but was worried they might not be friendly.
Days passed, and he heard the songs of birds and the laughter and chatter of various animals coming from the tree castle every day. Gradually, Amo believed they wouldn’t harm him.
One morning, he gathered his courage and walked towards the castle.
Amo met the elephant and said, “I request to become a guard at the tree castle, is that okay?”
The elephant asked everyone, “What do you think, can we take Amo in?”
After some discussion, the animals unanimously agreed to Amo’s request.
At that moment, a loud voice came from inside the castle: “I disagree!”
Who was speaking?
“It’s me. I am the tree castle. I have something to say.” Everyone listened quietly. “Ask Amo how the tree castle came to be.”
Everyone looked at Amo, waiting for his answer.
“I cut down a small tree. I shouldn’t have done that! That’s why I want to become a guard at the tree castle!”
In the end, everyone forgave him and made him plant a hundred trees around the castle every year.
Now, if you have the chance to visit the tree castle, you will surely see Amo first. He has become smaller and smaller, like a little wooden puppet, standing in front of the tall castle gates.
