Once upon a time, there was a tiger and a horse who lived under the rug in an art studio because they loved painting.

The little girl who lived in the house was named Senna. She asked them, “How did you become so flat that you can stay under the rug?”

“Because we’re imaginary animals,” they replied.

“Where do you hide your hay?” Senna asked the horse.

“Under the rug,” it said. “It’s imaginary hay.”

“Do you hide bones there?” she asked the tiger.

“Yes!” It licked its lips and ducked back under the rug.

The horse soon followed, leaving Senna alone. She brought some paper, drew lots of candy on it, and placed it under the rug. Soon, she heard the sound of candy being chewed and the horse’s happy neigh.

She then wrote on another piece of paper, “What does the tiger like?” and slid it under the rug. After some whispering, the horse poked its head out and said, “Hay sandwiches.”

“You’re so naughty!” Senna said. “Hay sandwiches are what you like, right? Now, go ask the tiger what it wants.”

The tiger emerged and said, “I’d like a watch so I can tell the time.”

“Alright!” said Senna, and she drew a watch along with a sandwich.

“Thank you, Senna.” They gave her a kiss.

“Do you want anything else?” she asked, “It’s time for me to go to bed.”

“We’d like an umbrella.”

“An umbrella?” Senna said, “But it doesn’t rain under the rug! Oh, it’s imaginary rain!”

So Senna drew a big umbrella and handed it to them.

“Thank you! Good night!”

“Good night!” Senna said, and she went to bed. But then she thought: having a nice new umbrella but no rain would be a pity! She drew some rain on a big sheet of paper, went downstairs, and slid the picture under the rug.

The next day, when she went downstairs, the studio was a foot deep in water, and the tiger and horse were sitting under the umbrella, floating around like they were in a boat.

The umbrella was drawn too big! Senna thought.

After breakfast, Senna went back to the studio. Her mom was vacuuming the rug. There was no water, no umbrella, no tiger, and no horse.

Senna took out her drawing pad and drew a sleeping tiger and a sleeping horse. She sat down and watched the fire, and the studio was silent except for the sound of snoring coming from under the rug.
