The Subway of the Field Mouse Farm
By the riverside, there was a fertile piece of land where the field mouse had established a farm, growing green vegetables, sweet potatoes, peanuts, mushrooms, and carrots. In autumn, the little animals from across the river would cross the dam built by the beaver to help harvest. Once everything was done, the field mouse would always send many gifts to his friends.
This year’s harvest was particularly good. To store the food, the field mouse dug deep and wide tunnels that branched out in all directions, resembling the subways in the city! Looking at the fruits of his labor, the field mouse had a bright idea: perhaps he could also run a subway in his burrows. He smoothed out the tunnels and decorated the walls, finally bringing in a little electric train to become the driver.
Next, it was time to invite friends over for a visit. They would be the field mouse’s first passengers.
When the little animals heard the news, they rushed over, filled with excitement and curiosity, eagerly hopping onto the little train.
The subway’s first station was Hill Station! With a few honks of the horn, the little train slowly entered the tunnel. Colorful lights were strung along the tunnel walls, flashing constantly, creating a feeling as if they had entered a time-space tunnel—truly magical. Soon, the subway reached its first stop: Activity Room Station. The activity room was spacious enough that even a dozen little animals didn’t feel crowded. On the walls hung photos of the field mouse and his friends, and there were many gifts from friends on the shelves. Each photo and gift held a beautiful memory, and the friends chatted and reminisced, creating even more memories together.
The subway continued its journey to the next stop: Kitchen Station, located in the center of the granary. The host had prepared sweet potato cakes, mushroom soup, peanut butter, vegetable salad, carrot juice, and dew collected early that morning… Everyone enjoyed a hearty meal before the little train set off again.
The subway twisted and turned through the field mouse’s burrows, eventually arriving at the last stop—Riverbank Station, the closest to the friends’ homes.
That day was filled with joy, and the field mouse slept soundly. The next morning, he woke up early, waiting at the station. However, he waited and waited, and by midday, not a single little animal had shown up. What was going on?
Puzzled, the field mouse went to the small woods to look for his friends. Ah! It turned out that everyone was busy expanding their burrows at home, wanting to connect with the field mouse’s burrow.
Thus, the field mouse farm’s subway continued to extend, crossing the dam built by the beaver, and soon new stops were added: Mole Hole Station, Chipmunk Tunnel Station, Hedgehog Nest Station…
It became much more convenient for friends to come and go. Even better, so many vegetables and grains were quickly delivered to each friend’s home through this extensive subway network. It truly was an amazing thing!
