The Story of Fruit Town
Fruit Town is just as lively and bustling as our town, with everything one could wish for. However, the only difference is that the residents of Fruit Town are all fruits, from the ones you can name to those you might not know. They all happily live there.
Little Cherry eats very, very slowly. Every morning, by the time she finishes her breakfast, which she nibbles at bite by bite, the first class is already over.
Cherry’s mom has to pack a bag with Little Cherry’s breakfast so she can carry it and eat while walking to school.
Cherry’s mom prepares a rich and loving breakfast for Little Cherry: a box of Dudu Milk, a piece of Pupu Sandwich, a serving of Papa Salad, and a handful of Chacha Cookies.
Little Cherry decides to start with the sandwich.
“What are you eating? It smells so good!” Little Peach suddenly appears beside Little Cherry.
“I’m having a Pupu Sandwich. Would you like a bit?”
Little Cherry shares half of her sandwich with Little Peach.
After finishing the sandwich, she moves on to the salad. Just as she takes a few bites, the little Grape brothers come walking toward her. They say, “Wow, are you eating Papa Salad? I heard it’s the best salad ever, but sadly our mom doesn’t know how to make it…”
Without hesitation, Little Cherry divides the salad into three portions, keeping one for herself and giving one each to the Grape brothers.
By the time they arrive at school, Little Peach and the Grape brothers enthusiastically tell the other classmates about how great Little Cherry is, sharing the delicious sandwich and salad. The other students look on with envy.
Little Cherry then takes out the Chacha Cookies from her bag and shares them with the whole class. What a coincidence! Each classmate gets one cookie.
Once the cookies are gone, the bell rings for class to start.
Ms. Yangmei walks into the classroom, sniffing the air and saying, “Hmm, what smells so good?”
All the students look at Little Cherry.
Little Cherry blushes and slowly pulls out a box of Dudu Milk from her bag.
“Wow, Little Cherry, how did you know that Ms. Yangmei loves Dudu Milk the most?!”
Ms. Yangmei joyfully rushes down from the podium, takes the Dudu Milk from Little Cherry, and drinks it all up before wiping her mouth and starting the lesson.
That afternoon, when the family sits down together for lunch, Cherry’s mom is surprised to find that Little Cherry has become much quicker at eating.
Fruit Town is just as lively and bustling as our town, with everything one could wish for. However, the only difference is that the residents of Fruit Town are all fruits, from the ones you can name to those you might not know. They all happily live there.
Ms. Yangmei has a poor memory and has lost several bicycles and dozens of red pens, but the worst part is that she always loses her house keys. From Monday to Saturday, she lost her keys three times. Fortunately, kind-hearted people always found them and returned them to her.
On a Sunday evening, Ms. Yangmei once again finds herself helplessly blocked outside her little green door. This time, she clearly remembers where she left her keys—on the couch in the living room. But that doesn’t help now! If only she had remembered before she closed the door, it would have been fine; now it’s too late! She has to call a locksmith.
The town’s locksmith is Mr. Grape. When Mr. Grape sees Ms. Yangmei’s familiar face, red with embarrassment, he immediately shows a “Oh, it’s you again” expression.
Ms. Yangmei feels even more embarrassed, looking down and softly explaining her situation, asking Mr. Grape to go to her house to unlock the door.
“I’ve been meaning to tell you,” Mr. Grape says, “you should have a spare key made and keep it with a friend. That way, if you lose or forget your keys again, you can ask that friend to bring you the spare.”
“Oh, that’s a great idea!” Ms. Yangmei exclaims happily, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
But then she worries again.
“What if I forget where I left the spare key with my friend?” she asks.
“Well, you could write down the friend’s name on a piece of paper,” Mr. Grape suggests thoughtfully.
“Right! I can write it down!” Ms. Yangmei cheers, thinking Mr. Grape is so clever. But soon, she realizes another issue: “What if I forget where I put that piece of paper?”
“Um, after you write the note, just call another friend to let them know where you kept the note,” Mr. Grape continues to offer advice.
“Sounds good, but what if I forget who to call?” Ms. Yangmei says, feeling really unsure about her memory.
The two of them go back and forth discussing it for a while, and finally conclude that Ms. Yangmei should have several spare keys made, keeping one at each friend’s house.
Problem solved!
“Now please come with me to unlock the door. Once inside, I can get the keys made for you,” Ms. Yangmei says.
“Just a moment,” Mr. Grape suddenly says awkwardly, “I need to call my friend first because I don’t remember where I put my toolbox.”
