The Stone Doll of the Little Hedgehog
“What a big pebble!” The little hedgehog spotted a large, pale green stone in the grass. The stone was oval-shaped, and the little hedgehog picked it up, turning it over and over in his hands, examining it from every angle. “I’ve got it! I can paint it into a beautiful, chubby doll!” In his mind’s eye, the little hedgehog could already see a round-headed, round-faced doll.
Back at home, the little hedgehog fetched his most beautiful colored markers and began to paint on the stone. He drew a plump face, chubby hands, and pudgy legs… A chubby stone doll came to life, and as for its clothes, the little hedgehog chose the brightest colors.
“So cute! So cute!” The little hedgehog hugged the stone doll. Then he thought, “I need to make her a nice little house.” So, the little hedgehog gathered a lot of foam and colorful strings and built a small house. On the roof, he hung little colorful lights. The rainbow-colored lights shone brightly and warmly on the chubby doll, making her look absolutely beautiful!
With this stone doll, the little hedgehog couldn’t stop thinking about her no matter what he did. He hugged her while watching movies, playing games, and visiting friends… “What a beautiful stone doll!” Everyone said so.
One day, the little hedgehog was hugging the stone doll and taking a nap when he seemed to hear a “tap-tap” sound in his dream. He woke up, and the “tap-tap” sound became even louder. He listened closely—it was coming from the mouth of the chubby doll.
“Oh my!” the little hedgehog exclaimed with delight, “The chubby doll can sing! Tap-tap—tap-tap—”
Before long, the stone doll actually started rolling around on the bed.
“Oh my!” the little hedgehog cried out in surprise, “The chubby doll can dance! Step by step—”
“Crack!” A crack appeared on the doll’s belly.
“Oh my!” The little hedgehog was extremely shocked, “Is the chubby doll performing magic? Oh my goodness!”
“Crack!” Another large crack opened up on the doll’s belly, and a yellow head popped out from the opening.
“Oh my—” This time, the little hedgehog was so amazed that he couldn’t speak. A yellow head, black eyes, and red feet… A delicate little gosling emerged from the stone doll’s belly!
“Ah—ah—” The little hedgehog finally realized, “The chubby doll was actually, actually a fat goose egg?”
