The Spinning Tops
Little hamsters Mido and Mila recently became fascinated with spinning tops. Every day, they would carve, scrape, assemble, and paint, making a dozen or so tops of various sizes. Some were wooden, some were made of cardboard, some were spherical, and some were cone-shaped.
“Mido, perhaps anything can become a spinning top!” Mila said as she made a button spin rapidly.
“Maybe that’s true!” Mido was trying to spin a small leaf. “It’s spinning, it’s spinning!” he called to Mila happily.
Mila pulled Mido into the kitchen. “Let’s go find some inspiration and make even more fun spinning tops!”
A small bowl spun in circles under Mido’s hand.
A plate danced at Mila’s fingertips.
An apple spun rapidly in Mido’s hands…
“Great!” Mila cheered, “We can make tops from bowls, plates, and apples!”
“Hold on,” Mido pulled Mila out to the yard, “this place will give you even more ideas!”
A butterfly circled around a flower.
A small pebble spun in the wind.
A little parasol twirled beautifully in Mido’s hands…
“So interesting,” Mila said, “we can make tops like butterflies, pebbles, and parasols!”
“Hey, I’ll show you something even more fun!” Mido said mysteriously, “Now, hold my hand!”
Mila felt Mido pull her into a fast spin, faster and faster… then suddenly, they stopped. “Wow, the blue sky is spinning, the white clouds are spinning, the sun is spinning, the houses are spinning, the flowers are spinning…” Mila shouted.
“Everything is a spinning top!” Mido shouted, “Did you discover it?”
“Yes! Yes!” Mila shouted, “Now, I am a spinning top, and you are a spinning top!”
“Being a spinning top feels like this, everything spins with us!” Mido lay on the grass and said, “So happy!”
“I understand,” Mila said, “The first thing we need to make is—two hamster spinning tops!”
“One will be called the Mido Top, and the other the Mila Top,” Mido said joyfully, “Every time they spin, they bring the world with them, and everything spins in their eyes and hearts!”
“Spinning tops spin, the world spins, beauty spins, joy spins, happiness spins…” Mido and Mila sang as they began making their hamster spinning tops.
