Little Sea Cucumber recently made a new friend — Little Yellow Fish.
One day, Little Yellow Fish excitedly came to find Little Sea Cucumber to play and said he wanted to take him for a tour in the deep sea. Little Sea Cucumber pitifully said, “Little Yellow Fish, I’m sorry, I can’t swim. I can only crawl slowly on the sea floor and can’t even cover four meters in an hour.”

When summer arrived, Little Yellow Fish went to find Little Sea Cucumber again, only to discover him hiding in a crevice, lying still with his back up, hard as a rock. Little Yellow Fish guessed that this might be another one of Little Sea Cucumber’s ‘special abilities.’ When he got home, his mother told him: “In summer, the sea surface warms up, and many small sea creatures come up to bask in the sun. Little Sea Cucumber can’t swim, so he can’t reach the surface and find food. He has to go into summer hibernation and will wake up in autumn.”
