The Secret of the Star Lamp

On a starry night, Lili gazed up at the sky, missing her parents who were far away. Lili’s parents were marine scientists who spent long periods at sea, so most of Lili’s time was spent with her grandmother. Her mother once told her over the phone, “Whenever you miss us, just look up at the stars. Each one represents our thoughts of you. As many stars as you see, that’s how much we miss you.”

“Stars, oh stars, please let my parents see how deeply I miss them. I want to see them so much,” Lili silently prayed as she stared at the sky.

Suddenly, a shooting star streaked across the sky, falling rapidly from the heavens. Lili held her breath, her eyes glued to it. This star seemed brighter than all the others, its tail trailing a long line of light, like a tattered ribbon. As it drew closer to Lili, there was a loud “bang” as it landed in a corner of the yard. Lili’s eyes widened in surprise as she watched the light fade away. She cautiously walked towards the spot where it had fallen.

In the garden, beneath a rose bush, Lili discovered the glowing object. It wasn’t a real shooting star but an injured little star. It had lost its brilliance from the night sky and now flickered weakly, seemingly asking Lili for help.

Lili gently carried the little star back to her room, placing it on a soft piece of cotton under a blooming cactus. The star, smooth as crystal and slightly bluish in its transparency, glowed intermittently, almost as if it were breathing. Each flicker felt like it was trying to speak to her. Lili reached out and gently touched it with her finger, and the little star trembled slightly.

She went to her grandmother to get some bandages and tenderly wrapped them around the star. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you find your way home,” Lili said softly. The star seemed to understand, emitting a brief sparkle as if to express its gratitude.

Under Lili’s careful care, the star gradually regained its strength. Its light was no longer weak but warm and bright. It was time for the star to return to the sky, and to thank Lili for her kindness, it decided to give her a very special gift.

That night, when Lili returned to her room, she found a new lamp on her windowsill. It was shaped like a star, made of a transparent material that seemed to hold countless tiny stars inside. In the dark, the star lamp emitted a soft glow that illuminated the entire room.

“This star lamp is woven from the purest light I gathered from the night sky, and it has magical powers,” the little star said gently. “As long as your heart is filled with kindness, it will help you find whatever you seek.” With these words, the star lifted off the windowsill and quickly disappeared into the night, becoming a bright point in the distant sky.

Lili looked up and saw a particularly bright star. She knew it must be the little star. She gently touched the bandage the star had left behind, feeling both sorrow and blessings in her heart. She whispered to the sky, “Bless you, little star! Thank you!”

Just then, the star lamp in the room began to spin, emitting a dazzling golden light that surrounded Lili, forming a glowing halo. As the halo expanded, Lili felt the whole room begin to spin. When she opened her eyes again, she was amazed by what she saw.

She was in a forest she had never seen before. Sunlight streamed through the thick canopy, casting dappled light on the winding, moist path. Tall oak trees, stately pines, and graceful willows intertwined, creating a green sky above her. Moss covered the tree trunks, and ancient vines wound around the branches, whispering old stories. Vibrant fish darted through the winding streams, squirrels hopped between branches, and birds with colorful tails sang in the woods, while blue, purple, and green butterflies as large as hands danced among the flowers. Sunbeams filtering through the leaves formed tiny transparent sprites that rolled and somersaulted on the ground.

Suddenly, a small fox with bright eyes jumped to Lili’s feet, its voice clear as a mountain spring, tinged with urgency: “Please help me, I can’t find my tail.” Lili reached out and gently held the fox’s paw, and together they navigated through the trees in search of the lost tail.

They crossed winding streams, walked through fields of flowers, and finally arrived at a tree hollow glowing with a purple light. At the entrance, fireflies flitted about, and the fox’s tail was inside, shining brightly. Lili carefully approached, gently picked up the tail, and instantly woke the fireflies sleeping on it. As they scattered like starlight, the fox’s tail returned to its body, and it rolled excitedly on the ground.

“Lili, thank you so much. This blanket is a treasure I found in the forest, and it can take you wherever you want to go. I’m giving it to you as a gift.” A well-worn flying carpet unfurled before Lili.

“Thank you, little fox, for this precious gift,” Lili said with a smile. “I will cherish it, and perhaps one day, I will use it to find my parents.”

Lili followed the little fox onto the flying carpet. Guided by her thoughts, the carpet gently lifted off the ground, drifting above the forest. They flew through the treetops, glided over seas of flowers, and the carpet traced a graceful arc through the air. Lili closed her eyes, feeling the wind caress her face, her heart filled with dreams of the future.

When the flying carpet finally landed smoothly on a vast green field, Lili opened her eyes to see the most familiar and longed-for sight—her parents, smiling and waving at her. She jumped off the carpet in excitement, running towards them and leaping into their warm embrace.

“Mom, Dad, it’s really you!” Lili’s voice was full of joy and excitement.

“Yes, Lili, it’s us. We were lost at sea, but it was your courage and love that helped the stars guide us back to you,” her father said, gently stroking Lili’s hair, his eyes filled with gratitude and love.

Lili hugged her parents tightly, knowing that it was her kindness and bravery that had helped the injured little star and, in turn, brought her parents back into her life. In this moment, she felt the warmth of home and the happiness that comes from helping others.
