The Rabbit Without Ears Story
In the world, there were fat-eared, skinny-eared, long-eared, short-eared, square-eared, round-eared, and floppy-eared rabbits.
And then, there was one rabbit without any ears.
However, he could do everything any other rabbit could.
He could zip from here to there in a flash…
And then zip right back from there to here…
He could jump just as high as any other rabbit. His burrows were just as deep as any other rabbit’s.
He could even devour a gigantic carrot mountain in the blink of an eye. And he always won at hide and seek.
But despite all this, no other rabbit wanted to play with him. They said a true rabbit should always have ears!
Even the foxes weren’t interested in chasing him. Foxes only liked to chase rabbits with ears.
The rabbit without ears was always lonely.
One day, the rabbit without ears found an egg.
He posted notices everywhere: Found an egg! The other rabbits laughed and said, “Look, the rabbit without ears is laying eggs!” The rabbit without ears thought: What mean rabbits they are! He dragged his heavy feet slowly back home. He waited and waited for the owner of the egg to come claim it. But no one did.
The doorbell rang once, but unfortunately, the rabbit without ears was busy at the time!
He took the egg to the lost and found, but nobody seemed interested in the egg. The man behind the desk smirked at the rabbit without ears and said, “Hey, looks like you’ve lost your ears. If anyone finds them, we’ll let you know right away!”
The rabbit without ears thought: What a mean guy! He had no choice but to take the egg back home.
The rabbit without ears searched online and found out that animals hatched from eggs usually had very small ears, almost like they didn’t have any. He thought: Perfect! These animals hatched from eggs won’t make fun of me!
From that day on, he never left the egg’s side. He read his favorite books to the egg. Taught the egg to swim. Took the egg to see the trendiest art.
At night, he and the egg watched scary movies together. And then, they slept together.
The rabbit without ears loved the egg very, very much. He worried the egg might catch a cold, so he knitted a little hat for it.
He took the egg mountain climbing to ensure it got fresh air.
Day by day, the egg grew bigger and bigger.
One day, the rabbit without ears accidentally…
He anxiously exclaimed, “Oh no!”
A little chick stood before him, staring blankly. The rabbit without ears was utterly disappointed.
“What?! How do you have two ears?”
The little chick chirped softly, “Cheep cheep!” and gave the rabbit without ears a gentle hug.
