The Old Turtle and the Little Bird

In a reed bed, there was a small pond. When the sunlight shone down, the reeds and the water of the pond were dyed with a honey-like color.

It was a quiet place.

“This is my pond,” the old turtle always thought. He had lived there for a very, very long time.

Every day, the old turtle would wake up early, chew on some grass roots, drink a little pond water, and then start his nap.

“Chirrup, chirrup…” One day, the old turtle was suddenly awakened by a sound. He opened his eyes and saw a little bird standing by the edge of the pond.

“Chirrup, chirrup…” The little bird sang as she took a bath. “Splash, splash!” Water droplets splashed in all directions, and the calm pond water was disturbed.

“I don’t like listening to singing, it’s too noisy…” thought the old turtle.

But from that day on, the cheerful little bird came to the pond every day, sang for a while, and took a bath. Her singing always woke the old turtle from his dreams.

“Alas, the peace and quiet here is gone…” The old turtle was very unhappy.

“Chirrup, chirrup…” The little bird kept singing.

“Sigh…” The old turtle couldn’t help but sigh.

“Ah!” The little bird was startled and noticed the old turtle!

“Did I, did I disturb you?” the little bird said, blushing.

“Yes, I really like peace and quiet…”

“I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to.” The little bird flapped her wings and flew away.

The reeds were quiet, and the pond was quiet.

“This is my pond…” thought the old turtle.

The old turtle took a long nap again. When he woke up, he felt that this nap was somewhat uncomfortable. He chewed a little grass root, drank a little pond water, but still felt low in spirits.

“How strange, what’s going on?” The old turtle thought and thought, “Oh, it turns out I didn’t hear the little bird’s singing today! I’ve gotten used to it…” The old turtle gently shook his head.

“When will the little bird come again?”
