The Mouse Who Shook Hands with the Lion

Early in the morning, Fat Crocodile asked his good friends, “What game should we play today?”

“Let’s play hide and seek! It’s the most fun,” said Little Mouse. Little Mouse loved playing hide and seek the most. He was small and could hide anywhere without being found.

“No, not hide and seek,” said Little Rabbit. “We just played that yesterday.”

Fat Bear suggested, “Let’s draw. My good friend, Lion, is a very beautiful and amazing lion.”

“Great idea!” said Little Hedgehog and Fat Crocodile. “Drawing is so much fun.”

“I’m scared,” said Little Mouse. “What if the lion gets angry and eats us?”

“No way, he’s a very gentle lion,” said Fat Bear as he went out to find his good friend, Lion.

Soon, Fat Crocodile and his friends came to the big oak tree to draw a portrait of Lion.

Lion greeted everyone politely and then sat under the big tree, letting everyone draw him.

The friends gathered around Lion, picked up their brushes, and began to draw seriously.

All that could be heard was the swish of brushes on paper…

Fat Crocodile checked on everyone’s drawings. Rabbit, Hedgehog, and Fat Bear were all doing well. Fat Crocodile stopped by Little Mouse and asked, “Little Mouse, what have you drawn?”

Everyone gathered to look and saw that Little Mouse had drawn Lion as a fierce cat. They all laughed.

Hearing the laughter, Lion said, “Can I see too?”

Fat Crocodile handed Little Mouse’s drawing to Lion.

Lion looked at the drawing and laughed too. He said, “Am I a cat? Do I look that fierce? I’m a very gentle lion.”

“Lion never bullies anyone!” said Fat Bear.

“Not even mice?” Little Mouse boldly asked.

“I never bully mice. I have many mouse friends,” Lion replied with a gentle smile. Little Mouse, feeling embarrassed, said, “I need to draw a new one.”

Everyone finished their drawings, and Lion looked at them one by one.

Pointing to Little Mouse’s drawing, he said, “This one is my favorite. Little Mouse drew me both mighty and gentle. Can I keep this one? I want to hang it on my wall.”

“Of course,” said Little Mouse happily. “I’ll draw an even better one next time.”

“Thank you, Little Mouse!” Lion said, extending his big paw to shake Little Mouse’s tiny hand firmly.
