The Little Mouse’s Pearl

A little mouse found a round pearl by the river. It was so beautiful, shiny, and the little mouse loved it very much.

The little mouse carried the pearl in its pocket all day long, only taking it out to look at when no one was around. He thought, “Such a beautiful pearl, I can’t let outsiders see it easily. If it gets stolen or robbed, that would be terrible!”

However, after playing with it for just a week, the pearl was lost. He looked everywhere but couldn’t find it and was very anxious.

One evening, a little squirrel came to the little mouse’s house, holding a shiny pearl in his hand and said, “Is this your pearl? I found it in the grass.”

The little mouse was both surprised and delighted: “How did you know this is my pearl?”

“I saw you playing with this pearl under the tree from up in the big tree,” said the little squirrel.

“Oh, I see! Thank you so much, little squirrel!” the little mouse said excitedly.

After the little squirrel left, the little mouse looked at the pearl in his hand and blushed. He thought: This pearl wasn’t originally mine; I should return it to its rightful owner.

The little mouse held the pearl and walked towards the river, just in time to meet the old turtle. The little mouse raised the pearl and asked, “Do you know whose pearl this is? I found it here.”

“Oh, I’ve been looking for it! I lost it a week ago,” said the old turtle. “It’s a pearl, a gift from a river clam at the bottom of the river.”

“So it’s a pearl! No wonder it’s so beautiful,” the little mouse quickly returned the pearl to the old turtle. “Please keep it safe and don’t lose it again.”

“You are an honest little mouse. I’ll give you this pearl as a gift,” said the old turtle, turning and swimming back into the river.

“Grandpa Turtle, thank you! Goodbye!” the little mouse shouted loudly from the shore.

The little mouse took the pearl home and warmly invited everyone to come and see it and play with it. He understood that good things should be shared with everyone.

Later, the little mouse lost the pearl several more times. But each time, the person who found it returned it, because everyone knew it was the little mouse’s pearl.
