The Little Magic Hat
One day, Qiqi was playing under a big tree when she discovered a beautiful hat lying on the ground. She put the hat on her head and exclaimed, “Oh, I’m just in need of a hat!”
A sparrow perched on the tree saw this and chirped, “Qiqi, that looks beautiful! What a lovely hat!”
Qiqi said, “If only I could grow a little taller, haha, then I’d look just like a star!”
The sparrow replied, “Yes, yes, absolutely!”
Before Qiqi could finish her sentence, her body suddenly shot up. She grew taller and taller, and in the blink of an eye, her head bumped against a tree branch.
Qiqi found herself stuck between the branches, unable to move. Panicked, she shouted, “Help! Help!”
As Qiqi struggled, the tree shook, and the sparrow, frightened, flew into the sky, not daring to stay on the tree.
The sparrow shouted loudly, “Oh no! Qiqi has turned into a giant!”
The sparrow circled around Qiqi but couldn’t help at all.
With a trembling voice, Qiqi cried, “I wish to be small again, a little person, I don’t want to be tall anymore!”
As soon as she finished speaking, her body shrank rapidly. In no time, she had become a person slightly larger than an ant.
“Oh dear, quick, move aside, you’re stepping on my foot!” an ant shouted at Qiqi.
Qiqi’s hat became tiny, no bigger than a grain of rice.
“Qiqi, where are you?” The sparrow was so scared that it couldn’t see Qiqi.
“I’m here!” Qiqi answered in a tiny voice, but the sparrow couldn’t hear her.
“Someone come quickly! Qiqi has disappeared!” the sparrow cried again.
After changing size twice, Qiqi felt as if she had gone through two high dives and fainted from fright.
An old lady asked, “What happened here?”
The sparrow said, “Qiqi is gone! A hat, it’s too scary!”
The old lady replied, “Ah, I found it, I found my little magic hat.”
She bent down, picked Qiqi up in her hand, and took off Qiqi’s hat.
With a puff of breath, Qiqi stood up, back to her original height.
The old lady was a witch. The little magic hat was hers.
The old witch gently set Qiqi down and said, “This hat isn’t yours; you shouldn’t wear it. Even if others have beautiful hats, they may not suit you.”
Putting on her own hat, the old witch looked just like a baseball player.
No wonder I had such a terrifying experience, Qiqi thought.
From then on, whenever Qiqi found a hat or something else, she would quickly shout, “Hey, who lost this?”
Qiqi was afraid of picking up the witch’s things again, as they were magical items.
