The Little Gray Mouse Patching the Moon
The little gray mouse was never idle, always asking this or wondering about that.
Today, he sat on the doorstep, staring at the moon. He was pondering a profound question: why was a piece of the moon missing? No matter how hard he thought, the little gray mouse couldn’t figure it out. Suddenly, he had an idea: he would patch the moon and make it whole again. This thought brought a smile to his previously furrowed brow.
The little gray mouse started working from dawn to dusk. Today, he went to the Hundred Flowers Garden to collect intoxicating floral scents. Tomorrow, he would go to the Hundred Herbs Garden to gather refreshing green essence. The day after, he would climb the sky ladder to pick soft and fragrant clouds.
A few days later, he would go to the Celestial Pool to wash off the dust from his body, then twist the tenacious grass from the Fragrant Grass Garden into thin ropes to stitch the cloud, infused with floral scents and green essence, firmly together.
Once the cloud was stitched up, the little gray mouse carefully tucked it into his pocket. He was going to use it to patch the missing piece of the moon.
Watching the moon grow smaller each day, the little gray mouse was so anxious that he was sweating all over. Every time he climbed to the top of a tree, he was still far from reaching the moon. Only by finding the tallest tree in the forest could he reach the moon to patch it. He searched for 14 days but still couldn’t reach it, and the moon had almost disappeared!
Perseverance pays off. The little gray mouse kept searching in the forest and finally found the tallest “Skyward Tree.” He excitedly ran over and climbed up early, waiting for the moon to appear so he could patch the missing piece.
As the sun gradually set, the little gray mouse bid farewell to the sunset and welcomed the starry night, eagerly awaiting the moon’s appearance.
A shooting star streaked across the night sky, and the little gray mouse hurriedly asked, “When will the moon come out?” The shooting star flashed by, not hearing the little gray mouse’s question.
All night long, the little gray mouse didn’t even catch a glimpse of the moon.
As dawn broke, the little gray mouse continued searching for the moon. It wasn’t until the sun set again that he finally saw a sliver of a crescent moon hanging in the sky. Overjoyed, he took out the firmly stitched cloud from his pocket to patch the moon. Exhausted, the little gray mouse couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer. Before he could close his eyes, he fell asleep on the treetop.
