The Little Fish Living in a Bird’s Nest
The clear river was the home of the little fish. Every day, Moka the little fish played with his siblings under the care of their mother. Sometimes, their mother would teach Moka to exercise, and other times she would tell him interesting stories. Moka felt so happy! He didn’t want to grow up at all, thinking, “If only I could stay with my mom forever!”
One day, while the little fish were learning to leap with their mother, they didn’t notice a big net being cast down. The mother and all the little fish were caught in the net, except for Moka, who was small enough to escape through the net’s holes. Moka was saved, but he had lost his family forever.
Moka was very sad. He neither ate nor drank and let himself float on the water’s surface. A little bird came to the river to drink water and noticed Moka. The bird asked with concern, “Little fish, what’s wrong? Are you unwell?” Moka didn’t want to answer and remained motionless.
The little bird grew anxious: “Could it be that the little fish is…” The bird flew over and pecked the little fish with its sharp beak, causing Moka to cry out in pain, “Are you bullying me too?” The bird laughed, “Little fish, I’m glad you’re okay. I was worried about you!”
The bird learned about Moka’s sorrow and stayed to keep him company. The bird and Moka the little fish became good friends. The bird said, “I want to make you happy and turn you into a joyful little fish.” The bird used a tree by the river as a stage, singing to Moka every day. Gradually, Moka became happy again.
The breeze blew gently, and the sun shone warmly. The bird asked, “Moka, do you see the bird’s nest in the water?”
Wow! On the sparkling river surface, there really was a delicate “bird’s nest,” just like the one in the tree. The breeze blew gently, and the sun shone warmly. Little fish Moka moved into the “bird’s nest,” and as the water rippled, the “bird’s nest” rocked back and forth. It felt like sleeping in a cradle—so comfortable!
When the autumn wind arose, the bird had to leave Moka the little fish to migrate south for the winter.
All winter long, as the weather grew colder, Moka felt warm because there was always a “bird’s nest” keeping him warm.
One day, the bird said to Moka, “Little fish, I’m going to build a new house, so you can live in a warm bird’s nest.”
Moka laughed, “I live in the water, and the bird’s nest is
in the tree. How can I live there?” The bird smiled but didn’t answer and kept busy every day. Finally, a delicate bird’s nest hung on the tree.
Moka looked at it and said, “It’s beautiful, but I can’t live in it.”
The bird replied, “Just wait and see.” Then the bird flew away to gather more materials.
One day, the bird brought a piece of the nest down to the water and floated it. Moka was curious and asked, “What are you doing?”
The bird said, “I’m making a floating nest just for you. Now you can live in a bird’s nest in the water.”
Moka was amazed and happy. He swam around the floating nest and then settled inside it. It was perfect. The nest floated gently on the water, rocking Moka to sleep just like a cradle.
Moka felt safe and loved. Even when the bird flew south for the winter, Moka stayed warm and happy in his floating nest. And every spring, when the bird returned, they would play and sing together again.
Moka had found a new family and a new way to be happy, thanks to his friend the little bird.
