Story: The Lion with a Thousand Teeth
The forest was vast. Of course, it was vast; otherwise, how could it be called a forest? It’s not unusual for strange things to happen in such a large forest. This was something that happened not long ago. Suddenly, a very unusual lion appeared in the forest. It didn’t have four eyes, six ears, or eight legs.
No, its peculiarity lay in its head, which was particularly enormous! Its mane was wild and bushy, looking like a small mountain. But what made it truly special wasn’t its mane but its teeth. It had a thousand teeth—500 on the top and 500 on the bottom. If this lion decided to get fierce, it could snap a big tree in half with a single bite. But this was just what people in the town said; the lion didn’t eat trees, so no one had actually seen it bite a tree in half.
The lion with a thousand teeth roamed around the big forest, which was no big deal. What I want to tell you today is that one day, this lion with a thousand teeth walked out of the forest and strode towards a town. There was a cow by the roadside. The lion stealthily approached the cow from behind, and by the time the cow realized a predator was about to eat it and tried to turn around to defend itself with its horns, it was already too late.
The lion: chomp! The cow was bitten in half before the farmer even had a chance to see what was happening. The farmer saw the lion with its enormous head and numerous sharp teeth and immediately knew that the lion with a thousand teeth had come out of the forest. He turned and ran towards the town, shouting as he went:
“The big-headed lion is coming!”
“The lion with a thousand teeth is coming!” The entire town was instantly thrown into a panic. Everyone, men and women alike, scattered like rabbits, disappearing in a flash.
“Hurry! Hurry! Who’s running so slowly? Oh no, this careless guy, look out, the lion with a thousand teeth is going to bite your butt off!”
People were shouting and yelling, and in no time, they had all taken refuge inside their houses. Now they were safe. Now everything was alright. People peeked out from their windows: indeed, the lion was coming! It was the very lion with a thousand teeth!
At this moment, in a candy shop, there was a boy named Shachi. He was smart and brave. He stood on the balcony and loudly said to everyone:
“Watch me handle this!”
Shachi said to the lion, “Hey, lion with a thousand teeth, don’t eat people! Eat the sweet candies I give you!”
The lion stopped. It looked up at the candy in Shachi’s hands and nodded.
Shachi then threw candy down piece by piece, saying, “Please, have as much as you like!”
The candy shop had plenty of candy. Shachi kept throwing candies while saying, “Eat, eat!”
The candy tasted really good, and the more the lion ate, the more it wanted. But the lion didn’t know that eating so much candy would surely make its teeth hurt.
Sure enough, as it kept eating, its teeth started to ache. Imagine what it’s like to have a thousand teeth aching all at once! The lion twisted its body, held its jaw, sometimes looking up at the sky, sometimes at the ground, shaking its head in pain and roaring. Even Shachi felt sorry for it.
