The Galloping Black Ant

Small, there were two ants. The pretty and smart one was the white ant; the ugly and clumsy one was the black ant.

As usual, the two ants went out separately to forage.

White Ant

The white ant discovered a beautiful glass jar filled with colorful candies. The lid was tightly closed, without any gaps. The white ant circled around the glass jar, tried biting it, and grabbed it with its hands, but the glass jar didn’t move an inch.

The white ant wanted to leave but was reluctant to give up, and soon the sun began to set.

“What a beautiful jar!” Suddenly, hearing this exclamation, the white ant turned around and saw the black ant dragging a dead fly.

The white ant smiled and said, “The jar is indeed beautiful. How about trading the fly with me?”

“Ah, you’re not joking, are you?”

“Of course I’m not joking, my friend.”

So, the white ant dragged the fly away.

Black Ant

The black ant came to the glass jar. It bit the glass jar, making a sizzling sound, but the glass jar still didn’t move.

Darkness enveloped the earth. The black ant cried while biting with all its might.

“Hey, why are you crying? You’re keeping me awake.” A black beetle crawled out from a crevice in the stone, looking very fierce.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to cry, but I can’t move this jar…”

“Heh heh, you, such a little thing, actually want to move such a big glass jar.” The beetle laughed, clutching its belly, “Alright, let me teach you a trick. If you remove the stones underneath the jar, you’ll be able to move it.”

The black ant thought this method was wonderful. It began to “attack” the stones under the glass jar. It bit, grabbed, and dug with its feet… Drinking dew when thirsty and eating grass blades when hungry, it worked so hard that it forgot to rest.

After a few days, a stone loosened. Then, the glass jar toppled over and rolled down the small hill.

The black ant quickly jumped onto the glass jar. The jar rolled faster and faster, and the black ant sat steadily on top, just like riding a galloping horse.

Thump, thump, thump, the glass jar rolled straight to its doorstep. The lid fell off, and the colorful candies spilled out.

In autumn, the ants used candy wrappers to build a beautiful little house for the black ant. Everyone said the black ant was the prettiest, smartest, and strongest ant.
