The Frog in the Bag of Strawberries
Bear loved eating fruit. One day, he went to the market and bought a bag of strawberries, a bag of bananas, and a bag of apples. Carrying the basket of fruit, Bear headed home. Not long after, he passed by a hippo who was laying the foundation for a house. The hippo called out to him, “Hello! This stone is really heavy. Could you please help me move it?”
“Sure, no problem!” Bear put the fruit on a stone slab and walked over to help.
Under the slab, there was a frog. The frog jumped out, spotted the basket of fruit, and happily leaped into it. He quickly burrowed into the bag of strawberries and started eating.
After a while, Bear returned. The frog was startled and tried to jump out, but it was too late. He quickly burrowed deeper into the bag, hiding under the strawberries. Bear, unaware, picked up the basket and continued walking home. When he arrived, he put all the fruit in the refrigerator.
Suddenly, it became cold inside the refrigerator. The frog hurriedly crawled out from under the strawberries. Looking around, he realized he was trapped inside. Panicking, he shouted, “Let me out! Let me out!” But no one could hear him from outside. Unable to withstand the cold, the frog soon fell asleep, entering hibernation.
In the evening, Bear decided to eat some fruit. He opened the fridge, took out the bag of strawberries, and was shocked: “Wow! How is there a frog in here?” He quickly wrapped the frog in a clean, warm towel. “I know what happened! The sneaky fruit seller must’ve put this frog in the bag and sold it to me as strawberries!”
After a while, the frog warmed up and woke. Bear quickly apologized, “I’m so sorry! I never imagined the fruit seller would be so bad as to sell me a frog instead of strawberries. I’m really sorry you had to go through this!”
The frog blushed and stammered, “It’s… it’s alright, no problem at all.”
“I’ll make you some ginger tea to warm you up!” Bear said as he hurried to the kitchen.
A little while later, a steaming bowl of ginger tea was placed in front of the frog. “Drink it while it’s hot—it’ll help you warm up!”
The frog drank the tea, thanked Bear, and then left his house.
The next morning, when Bear opened his door, he saw a bag of strawberries at his doorstep. Bear was puzzled, “What’s this?” Then, he slapped his forehead. “Oh, the fruit seller must have sent it as compensation! At least they realized their mistake…”
Behind a nearby tree, the frog watched as Bear carried the strawberries inside. Smiling, he turned and hopped away…
