The Forgetful Little Bear
There was a little bear with a very poor memory; he would forget anything he heard almost immediately.
One day, guests came to the little bear’s house. His mother asked him to go to the store to buy apples, pears, and milk candies. Worried that he might forget, the little bear repeated to himself,
“Apples, pears, milk candies. Apples, pears, milk candies…”
He was so focused on repeating these words that he didn’t watch where he was going and, “thud!” he tripped and fell. This fall made him forget everything he had been repeating!
“What did Mom ask me to buy?” He patted his head, trying to remember, “Oh, I got it! Balloons, toy swords, toy guns!”
The little bear returned home with a toy sword, a toy gun, and a red balloon. His mother said, “Oh dear, why did you buy toys?”
His mother gave him some more money and said, “This time, don’t forget!”
The little bear nodded, “Don’t worry, Mom!”
“Apples, pears, milk candies. Apples, pears, milk candies…” He repeated as he walked, but he was so focused on the words that he forgot to watch where he was going and, “bonk!” he bumped into a big tree.
The bump left a lump on his head and made him see stars. This bump made him forget what he was supposed to buy again. “What did Mom ask me to buy?”
He thought and thought, “Oh, I remember! Wooden tubs, clay pots, big water jars!”
The little bear returned home carrying a wooden tub, balancing a clay pot on his head, and hugging a big water jar. His mother was shocked, realizing he had forgotten again. She gave him more money and said, “This time, remember well!”
The little bear nodded with his basket in hand,
“Don’t worry, Mom!”
This time, he avoided the stones and trees and finally made it to the grocery store, where he bought apples, pears, and milk candies.
The little bear happily ran home. As he was running, a gust of wind blew off his hat. He quickly put down the basket and chased after his hat.
When he picked up his hat and turned back, he saw the basket on the ground, still filled with apples, pears, and milk candies! He shouted,
“Hey, who lost a basket? Come and claim it!”
