The Dreamy Rabbit

Living in the South is truly wonderful! There’s fresh green grass to eat all year round. As a rabbit, what could be more satisfying than that? However, this particular rabbit, named Bobo, was a dreamer. She loved to think about whimsical things and imagined doing things that other rabbits hadn’t thought of. One thing made her a little unhappy: she had never seen what snowflakes looked like.

What could be so beautiful about snowflakes? How could a rabbit have such strange ideas? Bobo’s parents thought their child might be a bit odd.

Every day, Bobo sat quietly on the grass, pondering what snowflakes in the North might look like.

One day in late autumn, while she was lost in her thoughts about the Northern snowflakes, she spotted a big goose flying in from the North. Bobo waved at the goose and asked, “Have you seen the snowflakes in the North? Can you tell me what they look like?”

“Oh, I’ve heard that in the North, when autumn turns to winter, snowflakes begin to fall, like countless white flowers blooming in the sky and on the ground. They’re said to be very beautiful!” The goose, who always flew south in autumn, had never seen snowflakes herself; she had heard about them from a rabbit in the North.

“Then how can I find out what the Northern snowflakes look like?” Bobo asked, still a bit reluctant to accept the situation.

“Oh, if you really want to know about snowflakes, I can give you the address of my friend Babi, a friendly rabbit. I guarantee that once he receives your letter, he’ll write back and tell you all about snowflakes.” The goose said, writing Babi’s address on a leaf and handing it to Bobo.

“Ah, how did I not think of this idea? Thank you, Goose! I’ll write right away!” Bobo carefully prepared a large, green banana leaf and wrote:

Dear friend Babi,

Hello!

I am a rabbit from the South, named Bobo. I learned your address from your friend, the goose. I have never seen snow and have heard that it only snows in the North, where beautiful snowflakes exist. I really want to know what snowflakes look like. Can you tell me?

Of course, you are welcome to visit the South. I will show you around. Our city has plenty of green grass and parks that I think you would enjoy.

Best wishes!

Your new friend, Bobo from the South

Bobo handed the banana leaf letter to the goose, asking her to take it to the Northern rabbit Babi when spring arrived.

Spring came, and the goose flew back to the North with Bobo’s letter. She delivered the banana leaf to Babi. When Babi received the letter, he was quite curious: he didn’t have any friends from the South! Who could be writing to him from so far away, and why was the letter written on such a beautiful banana leaf? He eagerly read the letter, which smelled warm and sunny, just like the South!

After reading, Babi understood that Bobo wanted to know about snow. This was no problem for him. He quickly found a beautiful maple leaf and wrote back:

Dear friend Bobo,

Hello!

I was so happy to receive your letter. I don’t have any friends from the South yet! It must be very beautiful there. I’ve heard from the goose that it doesn’t snow in winter, and you have plenty of green grass to eat. I really envy you!

In the North, when it snows, the ground is covered with a thick, white blanket, and the rooftops and tree branches are all covered in white, just like our fluffy fur. When it snows, snowflakes dance around in the air, each one as big as a fingernail and with six petals, floating everywhere. When the snow stops, my friends and I go out and leave little footprints in the snow. We also make snowballs, build snowmen, and have snowball fights—it’s so much fun! I wish I could send you a handful of snow, but my mother says that by the time it reaches the South, it will melt into water. So I’ll just bury the maple leaf in the snow so it can soak up the snowy smell; you’ll definitely smell it!

Eager to be your friend, Babi from the North

After finishing his letter, Babi carefully took it to the Northern Post Office during a snowfall, affixed a stamp, and dropped it in the mailbox.

Winter arrived, and Bobo received Babi’s maple leaf letter. As soon as she saw the beautiful red maple leaf, she jumped for joy. The letter from the North even had the scent of snow! Now Bobo understood what snow was all about, and she had made a good friend from the North.

With this new friend Babi, Bobo was no longer just a “Southern rabbit”; she learned many things about the North.

It seems that being a dreamy rabbit isn’t so bad after all! And making friends isn’t that difficult!
