The Crescent Moon Bread Story

A curved crescent moon hung on the treetop, yellow and bright. Little Mouse Bobbi stubbornly believed it was crescent moon bread from the sky. Craving it, he climbed up the tall old pine tree.

“I must taste what crescent moon bread is like,” Bobbi thought as he climbed, “Maybe it’s sweet and soft, maybe it’s fragrant and crunchy, maybe it’s filled with sweet red bean paste!”

When Bobbi finally reached the high branches of the pine tree, the crescent moon had disappeared! Bobbi was extremely disappointed: “Oh, I climbed too slowly. That greedy cat must have stolen the crescent moon bread.”

Bobbi went home, dejected, and couldn’t sleep in his bed: “The chef in the sky will surely make another fragrant crescent moon bread. I’ll go earlier tomorrow!”

The next day, the crescent moon bread seemed larger than the one before, emitting a faint sweet smell. Bobbi was overjoyed and climbed swiftly up the tree. He thought, “If I’m late again, I won’t get to eat it!”

Finally, Bobbi reached the highest branch of the pine tree. The crescent moon bread was still there! Bobbi was so excited that his face turned red. He carefully picked the crescent moon bread and eagerly stuffed it into his mouth…

Is it crispy and soft? Sweet and fragrant?

Oh, it’s none of those! “It’s hard as a rock, too awful to eat! It tastes like wood shavings!” Bobbi disappointedly spat out the bread.

“Bobbi! Bobbi, wake up! Why are you grinding your teeth in bed again?” His mother nudged him.

Bobbi opened his eyes. Sure enough, there were rows of teeth marks on the headboard of his little wooden bed.
