Story: The Chocolate Tree
“The New Year is coming soon. What gift should I give to my friends?” Early in the morning, Little Squirrel sat at his doorstep thinking and thinking. Suddenly, he had a great idea: greeting cards! Made with his most beloved pine cones!
Little Squirrel quickly ran inside, took out some colored pens, and drew his favorite chocolates on each pine cone. After finishing, he put the pine cones in his pocket and delivered them one by one to his friends.
“Little Bear is still sleeping. He will receive it as soon as he wakes up,” Little Squirrel said, placing a pine cone at Little Bear’s door.
“Little Rabbit doesn’t eat pine cones, but she can use it as a toy,” Little Squirrel said, placing a pine cone at Little Rabbit’s door.
“Little Swallow has flown south. She will see it when she returns,” Little Squirrel said, placing a pine cone under the eaves where Little Swallow used to live.
Spring arrived, and Little Squirrel went to invite his friends out to play.
Huh? Where was the chocolate scent coming from? Little Squirrel followed the smell and was amazed to discover that there were three identical small trees growing at his friends’ doorsteps, each covered with brown flowers.
Little Squirrel was puzzled. He scratched his head and asked, “What kind of tree is this?”
His friends laughed and said, “Have you forgotten? This is the chocolate tree you gave us!”
It turned out that none of the three friends had received the pine cone greeting cards in time. By the time they found them, the pine cones had already sprouted. When they realized these were gifts from Little Squirrel, they carefully nurtured them, making sure they didn’t get hurt. They had planned to wait until the trees bore pine cones to give them back to Little Squirrel, but instead, the trees produced chocolate candies.
This was wonderful! For the entire year to come, they would live surrounded by the rich aroma of chocolate.
