The Chick Without a Tail
In a chicken coop, there was a chick without a tail, and everyone mocked it. When eating corn, the other chickens wouldn’t let it eat. Whenever it managed to catch a cricket, the whole coop would chase it until they took the cricket away.
The tailless chick was bullied constantly, always hungry and thin. The poor chick decided to complain to the king. It thought, “I’ll write a letter to the king. He will protect me, and then we’ll see!”
So, it started looking for a letter on the ground. This little fool thought any piece of paper was a letter. Finally, it found a small piece of paper and held it in its beak as it headed to the palace. It also carried a sack of corn to eat on the way.
As it walked, it saw a fox sitting by the roadside. The fox asked where it was going, and the chick replied that it was going to the palace to deliver a letter. The fox asked to go along. The chick said, “If you can crawl into my sack, I’ll take you.” The fox curled up and squeezed into the sack, comfortably settling in.
The chick continued on its way. As it walked, it came upon a river. The river gurgled, saying, “Tailless friend, I want to go with you!” The chick said, “I’ve already brought a fox, so bringing a river is no problem.” The river rolled itself up and crawled into the sack. The tailless chick continued walking.
After a while, a thorny bush blocked its path. The chick asked the bush to move aside, but they argued. The fox stuck its head out of the sack and suggested that the thorny bush also get in. The bush folded its thorns and crawled into the sack. The chick puffed out its chest, held its head high, and continued walking.
The tailless chick finally arrived in front of the shining golden palace. It was a bit scared, not knowing what would happen inside. As it pondered, it ate some corn. It thought, “You can’t succeed without taking risks!” So, it confidently walked in.
The chick deliberately put on a dignified appearance as it passed through one grand hall after another, finally reaching the throne room. The chick bowed to the king and handed over the letter.
The king took the letter, looked at the front, then the back, and saw that it was just a dirty piece of paper. The king was furious and ordered the guards, “Lock it up with the hens and fry it in the oil pot tomorrow morning!”
The chick was taken to the chicken coop. Many hens immediately mocked and pecked at the tailless chick. The chick remembered the fox in its sack and let the fox out. The fox quickly bit the hens to death, one by one. With the fox’s help, the tailless chick flew over the wall and ran for its life.
The king, learning of this, roared in anger. He ordered a cavalry regiment to chase the chick.
The cavalry galloped away, hooves clattering, raising clouds of dust. The chick trembled in fear, thinking, “I’m done for! I’m going into the oil pot!”
“No, you won’t,” came the river’s voice from the sack. “Let me out quickly!” The chick regained its composure and released the river. The water roared, flooding the roads and fields, blocking the pursuers.
The pursuers got into boats and crossed the river. The chick heard the hoofbeats again and was terrified, thinking, “I’m done for! I’m going into the soy sauce!”
“No, you won’t go into the soy sauce!” came the thorny bush’s voice from the sack. “Let me out quickly!” The chick quickly let the thorny bush out of the sack. The bush immediately raised all its thorns, forming a dense barrier that even mice couldn’t get through. The pursuers couldn’t pass.
The chick was overjoyed, walking with pride like a majestic rooster. But when it reached its own chicken coop, it was worried again. It thought, “Even though I defeated the king and his soldiers, will the big chickens in the coop still bully me like before?”
Heart pounding, the chick walked into the coop…
It never expected that the flock would immediately surround it, showing great enthusiasm.
The chick asked, “Who’s our leader now?”
The flock shouted in unison, “You are, dear one.” The hens treated it especially well. Only then did the chick realize that during its long journey, it had grown into a beautiful rooster with a large red comb on its head.
The tailless chick bravely went on an adventure to seek justice from the king, but it was also quite foolish, taking a dirty piece of paper as a letter to the king, who would have killed it! Luckily, it made friends with the fox, the river, and the bush, and with their help, it escaped.
It finally grew a tail because it was a brave little rooster!
