She was very dissatisfied with her marriage; she married him under her mother’s orders. She was a person filled with romance, always hoping to spend every day with her lover, enjoying poetic moments and tender affection.

However, he was dull and silent, always engrossed in household chores. She thought, perhaps all marriages are just bland. So, she endured a life without romance. Yet, in her heart, she always hoped he would occasionally surprise her, making her feel that life still held passion.

But even such a small wish was always ignored by the dull him. That day was a Sunday and also her birthday. She hoped he would show some gesture, be it a bouquet of roses or a cake, even just a gentle birthday wish would comfort her. However, he just sat aside, fixing an alarm clock, saying he needed to repair it by Sunday.

Finally, she couldn’t hold back anymore and gently said to him, “Today is my birthday.” He merely responded with an “Oh,” and said nothing more. The room fell silent again. She had to ask, “Do you really have nothing to say?” He didn’t stop his work, and casually said, “Well, why don’t you take the day off from doing chores? I’ll handle everything.” Her heart sank, and tears welled up in her eyes.

After a long while, she calmed down from her disappointment. She didn’t want to spend her birthday in such a mundane way, so she decided to go out and have some fun. Without even informing him, she grabbed her bag and left.

As soon as she stepped out of the house, she heard an anxious shout behind her. She smirked coldly and continued walking forward without looking back. She could hear hurried footsteps behind her, and she knew it was him.

Ahead was an intersection. Distracted by her unhappiness, she didn’t notice the red light and walked across. When she reached the middle of the road, she suddenly felt a huge shadow looming over her. At that moment, a force pushed her aside, and amidst a screeching brake sound, she saw a familiar figure fall next to the truck.

Pedestrians gathered around, and the person on the ground got up—it was him, with many scrapes on his hands and forehead. Ignoring his own injuries, he ran to her and asked her the first thing, “Are you hurt?”

She hugged him tightly and burst into tears. At that moment, she realized that someone willing to risk their life to save her was the best confession of love.
