The Adventures of the Little Paper Man

Mimi is a little paper man who lives in a box. His owner is a little boy named Mumu. One day, when the wind blew through the window, Mimi lost his grip on the walls of the box and was blown up into the air. Mimi spun above the house, shouting for help, but Mumu was nowhere to be found. The ball wanted to save Mimi; it jumped up with a “thud,” but couldn’t reach him, and Mimi was blown outside.

Mimi flew through the air, attracting mosquitoes that came chasing after him. “Buzz, buzz, buzz,” the mosquitoes thought proudly, “If we catch this little man, we’ll have a big feast.” The flies saw this and also joined the chase. The mosquitoes didn’t want the flies to share, so they began to fight. Taking advantage of the chaos, Mimi escaped.

Mimi wanted to fly even farther, but the wind brought him down to the ground. He rolled on the ground as pebbles and clumps of mud fought to hold him back—he wasn’t sure if they wanted to play or if they had other intentions. Mimi was terrified, tumbling over and over until he was dizzy and lost all sense of direction.

Suddenly, Mimi came to a stop. A patch of grass had blocked his path. Gasping for breath and ready to rest, a frog unexpectedly jumped out from somewhere and pounced on Mimi. “Please, don’t eat me!” Mimi trembled in fear. “I won’t eat you,” the frog replied, “I just want to take you home to play with my kids.”

The frog’s children, little tadpoles, lived in the water, and Mimi didn’t want to go into the water because he would die. Luckily, being a clever little paper man, when the frog carried him past a tree, Mimi leapt out of the frog’s grasp and quickly climbed up the tree trunk. The frog couldn’t climb, so it left in frustration.

Sitting on a branch that extended outwards, Mimi looked around for Mumu’s house. Just then, a crow flew quietly over and grabbed one of Mimi’s feet. Mimi felt a sharp pain and quickly grabbed one of the crow’s feathers, pulling hard. The crow squawked angrily, and Mimi took the opportunity to drop down from the sky.

Oh no! Mimi landed in a garbage bin. A mouse, rummaging through the trash for treasures, spotted Mimi and exclaimed, “What a fun little man!” The mouse grabbed Mimi and brought him to its underground home, gently placing him on the ground and asking him to dance for its children. Although Mimi was reluctant, he figured he might find a chance to escape, so he forced himself to dance.

The little mice were thrilled, rushing to play with him. Mimi was tossed around, soaring up only to bang his head against the ceiling, and then squeezed so tightly he could hardly breathe. Suddenly, Mimi noticed a half-open skylight on the ceiling. Excited, he took advantage of the next time the little mice blew him up, and with a quick jump, he escaped through the skylight.

By now, it was dark, and Mimi had nowhere to spend the night. He found a large stone and decided to lean against it, planning to continue searching for Mumu the next day. Suddenly, a shadow rushed up to him, shouting, “Hey, who are you? Get out of here!” It was a toad, and the stone was its home.

Mimi quickly fled, running in confusion. He eventually ended up on the roof of a house. Exhausted, he collapsed onto the roof tiles and fainted.

This house was actually Mumu’s home. The next morning, an early bird spotted Mimi, immediately recognizing him as Mumu’s little paper man. It quickly picked him up and brought him back into the house. When Mumu woke up and saw Mimi on the windowsill, he rubbed his eyes in disbelief, then shouted joyfully and rushed over to scoop up Mimi.

From that day on, the wind never blew Mimi away again.
