Teen Romance Story
I like to place a bookmark in the pages of a book, both to mark my place and to enjoy its beauty when I’m tired, which helps to relieve my fatigue.
I developed this habit during my middle school years.
It was around that time that I experienced a major life upheaval: my dear father passed away. For some reason, I felt like I had become a different person. I was extremely mischievous, constantly getting into fights with other kids and frequently sneaking into rural areas to steal chickens and ducks. For quite a long period, I felt utterly bored and empty inside.
The new school term began, and while my classmates had already entered the classroom, I was wandering around the campus. Under a white magnolia tree, I took out a knife and started scraping off the tree’s bark layer by layer, carving crosses into the trunk…
The bell rang, and I heard chattering voices. “Hey, stop that.” I looked up to see a girl with long hair and bright eyes. I gave her a disdainful glance and went on to the classroom.
In class, I was surprised to see her again—she was the girl from under the tree. She smiled at me lightly. She introduced herself as Chen Yulan and said she was glad to be desk mates with me.
She said this while tossing her long, shiny black hair. Her pinkish face had a small black mole comfortably nestled beside her small mouth, and her eyes were clear and charming, exuding a faint, delicate fragrance.
Chen Yulan seemed so proud and aloof, extraordinary in her demeanor. She was always in a good mood and loved to sing in her bell-like voice during breaks. Her singing, “Let’s paddle our double oars, the little boat pushes away the waves, the beautiful white tower reflects on the sea, surrounded by green trees and red walls…” like a bird’s sweet voice, stirred my sorrowful, withered heart.
