Teaching patience to children: Little sheep

One wonderful morning, little sheep Momo and Jasmine discovered an apple tree full of big, red apples.

There was one apple that Momo wanted the most, but no matter how high he jumped, he just couldn’t reach it. Momo thought, maybe the apple will fall down on its own.

He waited and waited, waited and waited… but the apple just wouldn’t fall! Momo waited so long that he fell asleep. When Momo woke up, he found the apple was gone! Jasmine was eating that apple!

“Give me back the apple, that’s my apple!” Momo shouted. “Sorry, I didn’t know,” Jasmine said. Momo was very unhappy. “Please don’t be mad at me,” Jasmine said, “There are plenty of apples on the tree.”

“I just want that apple!” Momo yelled, “But you ate it!!” Momo was extremely angry… he got so mad that he grew angry teeth, angry horns, angry hooves, and an angry tail! “I want my apple!!”

“Don’t be so angry,” Jasmine tried to calm him. “I won’t!” Momo shouted, he stomped on the flowers, knocked over the chicken coop, scared away the ducks, and bit a cow’s tail.

Momo was so mad he didn’t know what to do. He stomped his big angry hooves and let out a furious roar, “Baa—” Momo got angrier and angrier, stomping harder and harder, making the ground rumble… suddenly—the ground cracked open and swallowed Momo whole.

Momo fell straight down, down, down, until he landed with a thud in the darkness, all alone. “Baa!” Momo cried out, but no one heard him. He tried to break through the wall, but it didn’t budge, and he hurt his head instead.

Momo felt very lonely. He closed his eyes and thought about the wonderful morning on the grass. “I wish Jasmine were here with me,” he thought. Slowly, slowly, Momo’s anger faded away.

When Momo opened his eyes, Jasmine was really beside him! “I’m sorry I got so mad at you earlier!” Momo said.

“It’s okay,” Jasmine said, “I came to find you. I guessed you might have gotten lost. Look, I found another big, red apple for you!”

“Thank you!” Momo was very moved.

Jasmine led Momo back to the grassy field.

Everything was peaceful again, how wonderful. But now Momo didn’t want an apple… he wanted a pear! But no matter how high he jumped, he just couldn’t reach that pear!
