Sweet love stories about proposals
After graduating from nursing school, I started working as a nurse in a top-tier hospital in the city. My boyfriend and I had been running down the winding road of love for four years, but we hadn’t yet reached the broad avenue of marriage. The reasons were simple: no house, no car, and not enough savings. So, I proudly joined the ranks of the “waiting to be married” crowd, dreaming of the day when my boyfriend would make it big and throw me a grand wedding.
But before I could even see the wedding, bad news came first. My boyfriend had recently been complaining about chest pain. As a nurse, I couldn’t make out anything specific, but I knew chest pain was no small matter. I urged him to come to the hospital where I worked for an X-ray.
When he arrived, he looked pale and troubled, which made me both anxious and heartbroken. Using my position, I pulled some strings to speed things up. I also called in the department head so we could get the results quickly.
During the X-ray scan, I noticed some shadowy shapes of various sizes between his chest and abdomen, and my legs started to feel weak. When the film was ready, I didn’t dare look at it myself, so I handed it directly to the department head.
As the head examined the film, his expression became a bit odd, his face looking unnatural at times, which sent a chill through me. I felt like a prisoner waiting for the verdict of a judge. But then the head handed the film back to me with a serious expression, saying, “There’s nothing I can do. Just take good care of him from now on.”
My hands trembled as I took the film, too nervous to look at the shadows on it right away. What I didn’t notice, though, was the tiny smile the head of the department was trying to suppress.
“Marry me!” followed by a circle with horns—this is what the shadows on the X-ray showed. I was confused for a moment.
The department head finally couldn’t hold back his laughter. “Your boyfriend is quite creative! What an extraordinary way to propose! You should say yes!”
I blushed with embarrassment and glared at my boyfriend, who was still pretending to be in pain, pleading with me to save his life. As soon as the department head left, I lifted my boyfriend’s shirt. His entire abdomen and chest were covered with transparent tape. Under the tape, held in place, were two words made of thin, curved copper wire: “Marry me,” and behind the circle with horns was actually a ring.
I pretended to be angry and moved to tear off the tape, but my boyfriend stopped me. “Think carefully before you do that, you don’t want to cause a medical incident.”
I gently embraced him, listening to his heartbeat through the tape. “Aren’t you afraid the X-ray radiation might affect your health?” I asked.
He laughed cheekily, “Getting a bit of radiation and winning my bride? Totally worth it!”
I nestled into his arms with a sweet smile. Forget about the house and the car! I’m saying goodbye to being ‘waiting to be married’!
