Story of kindness and sharing
Today is Granny Rabbit’s birthday. Early in the morning, Little Bunny Lala set off to the small forest with a bamboo basket. She wanted to pick mushrooms for her mother to make a delicious mushroom breakfast for Granny. Granny loves mushrooms, and Lala knew that a cluster of fresh, tender mushrooms had recently sprouted in the forest.
The early morning forest air was as fresh and sweet as peppermint candy. Sparkling dewdrops decorated the leaves, grass stems, and wildflowers… Under the big tree, the little mushrooms were holding up their tender white umbrellas and stretching their chubby little legs, looking very energetic.
Lala carefully placed them into her basket, being cautious not to damage the delicate umbrellas. Suddenly, a little head poked out from under one of the umbrellas – it was a little snail. “Sister Rabbit, are you going to pick all the mushrooms? Could you leave one for me to make a house?” “Of course,” Lala replied. “I’ll leave you two mushrooms. You can invite your friends to move in with you.” She left the biggest and prettiest mushrooms for the little snail. “That’s wonderful!” The little snail was delighted and gave Lala a sweet little story as a thank you gift. Lala loved the sweet story, and even the nearby morning glories stretched their necks to listen.
Humming a tune, Lala walked out of the forest. “Hey, isn’t that Little Goat?” He had his head down and seemed to be in a bad mood.
It turned out that Grandpa Goat was sick and wanted a bowl of grass and mushroom soup, but Little Goat hadn’t found any mushrooms. Lala gave him half of her basket. “Grandpa will definitely get better after drinking the mushroom soup!” Little Goat was very happy and, on his way back, he told Lala a particularly interesting story.
After saying goodbye to Little Goat, Lala quickened her pace. Granny would be so happy to see these fresh, tender mushrooms and would surely praise her for being so capable. As she thought about it, Lala couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Suddenly, a little wild boar came running out of the grass, crying for his mother. “Sister Rabbit, have you seen my mom? She went out early in the morning, and I’m so hungry—” The little wild boar looked longingly at Lala’s basket. “Alright, alright, I’ll give you a few mushrooms. Eat them and then go home and wait for your mom.” “Uh-huh, uh-huh!” The little wild boar nodded vigorously, grabbed the basket, and started munching. Accidentally, the little wild boar ate all the mushrooms.
Looking at the empty basket, Lala’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’m sorry, I only meant to eat two mushrooms— I— I don’t have any mushrooms to give back— How about I tell you the story my mom told me last night?” The little wild boar lowered his head and said.
And so, Lala went home with an empty basket. She pouted, feeling down. But Granny, after hearing what had happened, laughed happily. She patted Lala’s beautiful long ears and said, “Good child, you did the right thing!”
Since the mushroom breakfast couldn’t be made, Mom cooked a big pot of carrot soup. Lala filled a big bowl for Granny. Granny said, “The soup Lala served tastes like stories, so sweet!”
