Stories of selflessness and bravery for kid

In a distant little village, there lived an elderly man nearing seventy years old. His back was always hunched, so everyone called him “Hunchback Grandpa.” He had never married, and of course, he didn’t have any children. How he longed for a child!

In front of his house, he had planted many banana trees, and they grew very vigorously. Every day, Hunchback Grandpa watered and fertilized them. When autumn came, the banana trees bore many bananas. Hunchback Grandpa would pick the bananas and sell them at the market to buy rice, salt, and other necessities.

One spring, a fierce storm raged for several months, leaving the banana trees with only a few remaining leaves. Only one banana tree continued to grow against the wind, and Hunchback Grandpa was very sad, but he didn’t give up hope. He diligently watered and fertilized that tree, and within a few days, it grew to be three meters tall.

When autumn arrived, the tree produced only one banana, but it was enormous, as big as a barrel. Then one day, the banana peel split open, and out jumped a chubby little boy who hugged the old man and called out, “Daddy! Daddy!” The old man’s face lit up with joy. “I’ll give you a name. I’ll call you Banana Baby!”

Since having Banana Baby, the old man was overjoyed, but Banana Baby wasn’t so happy. One day, he said to his father, “Your back is always hunched over; it looks so unpleasant, and it makes it difficult for you to do anything. I want to find a medicine to help you straighten your back!” The old man reluctantly agreed. So, Banana Baby set off on a journey to find the medicine.

He traveled to many places without finding it, but he didn’t give up and continued searching. One day, he arrived at a lakeside and saw a long-haired girl combing her hair. Banana Baby walked up to her and asked, “Long-haired sister, do you know of a medicine that can help my father straighten his back? I’ve searched far and wide, but I’ve found nothing!” “You’re such a good child! I know of a pearl in a cave on East Mountain that can cure all ailments.”

Banana Baby was overjoyed and quickly made his way to East Mountain, climbed into the cave, and retrieved the pearl. He was eager to get home, but on the way, he saw a young shepherd lying on the ground, barely alive.

He remembered that saving a life was the most important thing, so he quickly placed the pearl into the young shepherd’s mouth. Miraculously, the shepherd woke up. It turned out that two bulls had been fighting, and when the shepherd tried to stop them, one of the bulls accidentally gored him with its horn.

Banana Baby had lost the pearl and had no choice but to return to the long-haired girl. She told him, “On the peak of West Mountain, there’s a red mushroom that can cure all ailments.”

Banana Baby happily made his way to West Mountain and climbed to the top. To his surprise, there were so many mushrooms on the peak that he didn’t know how to find the red one. Suddenly, he saw something shining in the distance. He walked over and exclaimed, “Ah! It’s the red mushroom the long-haired sister mentioned!” Without hesitation, he took it and started down the mountain.

He hadn’t gone far when he saw an old man lying on the ground, groaning in pain. Banana Baby quickly placed the red mushroom into the old man’s mouth, and miraculously, the old man stood up. It turned out that a big tree had fallen on the old man, pinning him down.

Banana Baby returned to the lakeside once again, and the long-haired girl told him, “At the foot of South Mountain, there’s a small stone in a pond that has colorful patterns on it. It can cure all ailments.” Just as Banana Baby was about to leave, the long-haired girl stopped him and said, “These are the only treasures I know of, so don’t come looking for me again.”

Banana Baby agreed and happily set off. He arrived at the foot of South Mountain and found the pond, but there were so many stones in it. How could he find the one with colorful patterns? It was like finding a needle in a haystack. He jumped into the water and searched tirelessly but couldn’t find it. Suddenly, he felt something under his foot. He looked down and exclaimed, “Isn’t this the stone with colorful patterns?” He was overjoyed and thought, “I’ve finally found it!”

So, Banana Baby hurriedly made his way back home. As he crossed a wooden bridge, he saw a woman fall into the water while carrying a baby in her arms. She was on the verge of drowning. Banana Baby placed the small stone into the woman’s mouth, and she was saved.

Banana Baby had no choice but to return home empty-handed. He told his father everything that had happened, and Hunchback Grandpa happily said, “Banana Baby, you did the right thing! My back has been hunched for ten years; let it stay that way!”

Suddenly, a peacock flew in through the window and transformed into a young woman. Banana Baby recognized her and said, “Aren’t you the long-haired girl?”

The long-haired girl replied, “Yes, I was moved by your kindness, so I’ve come today to cure your father’s hunchback.” She then took out a cup of clear water and gave it to Hunchback Grandpa to drink.

Amazingly, Hunchback Grandpa straightened his back and stood up tall.

From then on, they lived a happy life!
