Squirrel adventure story: The Feather Sailboat

A little squirrel was humming a tune while strolling down the street. Wham!

The little squirrel took a tumble and landed face-first in the dirt. It turned out he had stepped on a watermelon rind.

“Hmm, I can turn this watermelon rind into a boat,” the little squirrel muttered to himself.

He first erected a mast on the watermelon rind boat and then tied a sail made of decorative paper to the mast. A watermelon sailboat was now complete.

The little squirrel happily sat in the watermelon sailboat and set out to sea.

The sun radiated beams of golden light, and the wind blew on the paper sail. The boat didn’t even need oars; it could sail forward on its own.

Before long, the coastline disappeared from view.

But soon, the sky suddenly turned dark. Thunder rumbled, and rain started pouring down in sheets.

The rain grew heavier, and the wind blew stronger.

The watermelon sailboat sailed through the stormy sea, sometimes leaping to the crest of a wave, sometimes plunging into a trough. “This is really thrilling!” the little squirrel thought.

Wait, why has the watermelon sailboat stopped? Oh no! It turns out the paper sail had gotten soaked by the rain and was completely ruined.

After a while, the rain finally stopped, and the sky cleared up again.

But the watermelon sailboat wouldn’t move anymore. With no sail and no oars, how could the boat sail? The little squirrel looked out at the vast sea and began to feel waves of fear…

“Mom, Dad, please come save me!” But all around him, it was silent.

The little squirrel cried as he shouted, “I’m going to starve, die of thirst, or be scorched to death by the sun here…”

At that moment, a flock of seagulls flew over. They kindly said, “Little squirrel, don’t cry. We’ll help you.”

A seagull plucked a feather from its wing and gave it to the little squirrel.

The little squirrel attached the feather to the mast, making it into a feather sail. The wind blew on the feather sail, and the boat began to sail through the waves again.

Gradually, the shoreline appeared before the little squirrel.

The little squirrel reached the shore, looked at the seagulls flying over the sea, and shouted with deep gratitude, “Thank you, seagulls!”
