Short story for kids about courage

In the clear river, lily pads floated on the water’s surface. It started to rain, and the raindrops fell on the lily pads with a plop, sounding like little drums being played, very pleasant to hear!

The rain stopped, and the sun came out, smiling. A crab climbed onto a lily pad and saw a large, crystal-clear water droplet rolling on the pad. Amazed, it exclaimed, “Come and see! What a beautiful big pearl!”

A group of small fish heard this and emerged from under the lily pads, swimming one by one to the edge of the pad, raising their heads high and asking, “Where is the big pearl? We can’t see it…”

“Come up here! You’ll see it once you’re on the pad,” the crab beckoned with its large claw.

But who dared to leave the water? The fish were all at a loss. At this moment, a small fish said, “Let me try; I’ll go up and see the big pearl.”

“Don’t go! It’s too dangerous for us fish to leave the water,” the companions warned it.

“It’s okay,” the little fish said, giving a strong flick of its tail. It leapt out of the water and landed on the lily pad, rolling into the large water droplet.

In the sunlight, the large water droplet sparkled with a silvery light. The crab was stunned: “Ah, a pearl fish!”

The little fish’s mouth opened and closed, slowly drinking up the entire large water droplet. The crab, alarmed, shouted, “Oh no! The little fish has swallowed the big pearl! It’s going to burst!”

However, the little fish calmly wiggled its body, suddenly giving a strong jump, hopping off the lily pad. The companions quickly swam to its side, anxiously asking, “What’s wrong? You swallowed the big pearl, does your stomach hurt?”

The little fish wagged its tail, blew out a string of bubbles from its mouth, and said, “No, it doesn’t hurt! The big pearl was a bit sweet, quite delicious.”

The companions, both happy and envious, said, “You’re amazing, so brave!”
