Short story about mouse and chick
One day, Little Mouse found a nest of eggs in the bushes. “I’ve heard eggs are really tasty. Why don’t I steal one?” He glanced around and, gathering his courage, said to himself, “Alright! Let’s do it!”
Back home, Little Mouse grabbed a bowl and prepared to crack the egg. But before he could, “Rumble, rumble!” The egg started to move.
Suddenly, a fluffy little chick popped out of the shell.
“Mommy…” The chick chirped as soon as it hatched, looking up at Little Mouse.
“I’m Little Mouse, not your mommy,” Little Mouse replied.
But the chick didn’t care. It kept chirping and snuggled into Little Mouse’s arms.
“Mommy, I’m hungry!” it cried.
“Alright, alright, I’ll find you something to eat,” Little Mouse sighed. He fetched some rice, and the chick happily gobbled it up. While the chick was eating, Little Mouse’s mind was racing: “I really don’t want to be its mommy… What should I do? Oh! I’ve got it!”
Little Mouse took the chick to a far-off meadow. “Let’s play hide and seek! I’ll hide, and you seek!” he suggested.
“Sure!” the chick replied eagerly. It closed its eyes and started counting, “1, 2, 3…” While the chick was counting, Little Mouse seized the chance and ran away. But to his surprise, the chick managed to find its way home.
Later, Little Mouse took the chick to collect acorns, to watch the tides by the sea, and then left it there all alone. But every time, the chick somehow made its way back home. Little Mouse was out of ideas. In the end, poor Little Mouse had no choice but to leave his own home.
One day, while Little Mouse was relaxing in the meadow, basking in the sun, he overheard someone talking: “If you see a little mouse, please tell him his chick is waiting for him at home!”
“Of course!” a dog responded warmly.
Hearing this, Little Mouse could no longer sit still. He dashed home.
“Mommy!” The chick excitedly threw itself into Little Mouse’s arms the moment it saw him.
Little Mouse’s nose tingled with emotion, and he said with feeling, “Mommy won’t run away anymore.”
Thinking about the word “Mommy,” Little Mouse came up with an idea. He returned to the place where he had found the egg and gave the chick back to its real mommy.
The mother hen, who had been feeling guilty for neglecting her eggs, burst into tears of joy when she saw her twelfth chick. The little chick quickly bonded with its brothers and sisters. Seeing this, Little Mouse felt incredibly happy as well.
