Emotional struggles in marriage
After getting married, some mischievous friends often teased them about their heights. He was 1.69 meters tall, and she was 1.70 meters tall, just a difference of one centimeter. But vision is a tricky thing; it exaggerated this one-centimeter gap in people’s eyes infinitely.
After hearing the jokes many times, he still laughed them off, but in her heart, a seed of doubt began to grow.
This one centimeter suddenly became an insurmountable chasm. She even thought about breaking up because of this one centimeter, but something always held her back, softly and stubbornly, making her lack the courage to sever the ties.
Eventually, she refused to appear with him. She would shop alone, gritting her teeth while carrying large bags; attend friends’ gatherings alone, only drinking soft drinks for fear of not being able to get home if she got too drunk. Even when working late, she no longer asked him to pick her up.
The taxi couldn’t drive into the alley, so she had to get off at the entrance. At first, she was scared, but after getting used to it, it became fine. She finally understood that she could get by without him.
He didn’t ask anything and spent less and less time at home. Whenever she came back, no matter how late it was, he would always come home even later, looking exhausted. Was he trying to show her something? She felt a bit aggrieved.
The apple’s exterior remained smooth and red, but its core had turned bitter. That last bit of attachment vanished. She wanted to find a suitable time to peacefully end the marriage.
He was suddenly sent on a business trip. Before leaving, he repeatedly reminded her, “When shopping, don’t just hold your wallet casually. If you work late or attend gatherings, and it’s too late, make sure to call that familiar taxi driver.”
Listening to his gentle words, she almost wanted to sneer, “When you’re at home, have you ever had me in your eyes or heart? Now you’re pretending to be a loving partner. It’s really despicable!”
Her heart suddenly felt lighter. She knew this love was already dead. During the seven days he was away, she continued shopping, gathering, and working late as usual. However, some unexpected things happened.
In front of the supermarket, her wallet was snatched by a twelve or thirteen-year-old child.
Coming back late from work one night, she realized she had left her bag with her keys and phone in the taxi at her doorstep. Not knowing what to do, she crouched at the door, hugging herself.
The sound of footsteps coming upstairs startled her into standing up. It was the taxi driver, rushing up to deliver the lifesaving little bag.
She smiled through her tears, thanking him profusely. The driver smiled slightly, “No need to thank me. Your husband instructed me. He said that if you take my taxi at night, I must notify him to come and pick you up. Today, he told me he was on a business trip and asked me to make sure your lights were on before leaving. Just now, I saw you forgot your bag.”
So that’s how it was! No wonder even small thieves dared to snatch her things as soon as he left. Every time he came home later than her, it was because he had been following her.
When she went to the station to pick him up, she scolded, “Why did you hide behind me, almost causing me to lose you!”
He smiled and said, “God hid my one centimeter so I could discover your kindness. I hid behind you so you could see happiness as soon as you turned around.”
She turned around, hugging him tightly, holding onto her happiness. Who would be so foolish as to give up a lifetime of happiness for the one centimeter God hid?
