Seagull and swifts

The little seagull was very beautiful and especially fond of looking pretty.

In the morning, the little seagull flapped her wings and flew to the sea.

The sea was the little seagull’s mirror, and she came here every day to groom and dress herself.

The little seagull looked at herself in this mirror, twisting her body and preening her feathers, believing she was the most beautiful girl in the world.

While the little seagull was feeling very pleased with herself, some harsh words flew over from the rocks on the coast: “Vain! Vain!” chattered the swifts building their nests, “No one will like you if you don’t work!”

“Hmph, you’re just jealous of me!” the little seagull turned away defiantly and continued to look in the mirror.

At noon, the little seagull flew to the reef and pecked at the fish and shrimp drying on the shore. Suddenly, a sea swallow came over and said, “Lazybones, don’t eat that! Those are the fish and shrimp we caught!”

The little seagull sat on the rocks by the shore and cried, crying so sadly! She didn’t look beautiful at all in the mirror.

The mother sea said to her, “Labor is the noblest virtue. Why don’t you work together with them?”

The little seagull nodded.

Later, the group of hardworking seabirds had one more beautiful bird, and that was the little seagull.
