Romantic Love tale: Crossing the Himalayas for You

On a sunny and dazzling morning in May, a young man with a slim build walked into an appliance store in the town of Bomi, Lhasa. He set his eyes on a tall, luxurious washing machine. He lifted it up and put it down repeatedly for an hour before he finally made up his mind and told the shop assistant, “I want to buy the lightest one.”

The shop assistant picked out the lightest model for him and couldn’t help but ask, “Why don’t you buy the one you like?” The young man replied regretfully as he paid, “I need to cross the Himalayas and bring the washing machine to my fiancée, Asang. It’s too heavy to carry otherwise!”

The shop assistant finally understood that he was going to transport the washing machine over a 4650-meter-high mountain to the remote village of Jiareza.

A burly man with a bushy beard shouted to the young man, “Inge, it’s time to go!” Inge strapped the washing machine tightly with a rope, followed the caravan, and set out on the mountain path.

However, the weather was not on their side. It started to drizzle, making the road slippery, and Inge gradually lagged behind the caravan.

After two hours of trudging, he sat down on a rock to rest, panting heavily. As he looked around, he noticed rows of colorful prayer flags hanging by the roadside. His gaze fixed on a pink prayer flag that Asang had embroidered with scriptures to pray for his safety.

Inge seemed to see Asang’s big, bright eyes looking at him with deep affection. Instantly, he was filled with strength and continued his journey.

Six hours later, Inge finally arrived at the campsite with the caravan. The campsite was located at the Suila Pass and had only two wooden huts for travelers to rest. Since they would be climbing the Himalayas the next day, everyone wanted a good night’s sleep to gather their strength. Inge found himself with no place to rest indoors and had to settle outside.

After dinner, he pulled out a blanket and, leaning against the washing machine, drifted into a dream filled with Asang’s smiles.
