Rolling Turtle

It was a joyful occasion. Mama Bear had invited all the friends in the forest to her house because today was Little Bear’s birthday. “You must come!” Mama Bear said over the phone.

Giraffe and Deer set off together. Turtle saw them and said, “I want to go with you.” Giraffe replied, “You move too slowly. By the time you reach Mama Bear’s house, they might have already started hibernating. But don’t worry, we’ll bring your greetings.”

Turtle was disappointed. Then he saw Rabbit and Squirrel and said, “I want to go with you to Little Bear’s birthday party.” Squirrel laughed, “You’re too slow. How about this: I’ll tell Mama Bear to notify you a month earlier next year.”

Squirrel and Rabbit hopped away together; Fox and Monkey left together; Hedgehog and Frog went off together; Puppy and Piglet also went together. None of them wanted to invite Turtle to go along.

“Mama Bear said everyone was invited, and I’m part of everyone,” Turtle said sadly. “But I really can’t get there on time.”

He lifted his head and saw an iron hoop lying under a tree. It was something Puppy and Piglet often played with. Turtle looked at the hoop and suddenly had an idea: “If I pull my head into my shell, I’ll be just like a hoop! I can roll to the party!”

Thinking this, Turtle tucked his little head into his shell and began to roll along the path.

Rolling and rolling, he passed Puppy and Piglet. He heard Piglet exclaim, “Oh my gosh, it’s Turtle!”

Rolling and rolling, he passed Hedgehog and Frog. Frog shouted, “Hey, are you Turtle?”

Rolling and rolling, he passed Fox and Monkey, then Rabbit and Squirrel, and finally, Giraffe and Deer.

When Turtle arrived first at Mama Bear’s house, Mama Bear curiously asked, “Huh, how did you get here first? Who carried you?”

“I came by myself,” Turtle proudly replied.

That evening, Turtle performed his “Rolling Myself” act, which turned out to be the best birthday present Little Bear received.
