Rabbit Story: The Remarkable Rabbit
Under a big tree, a few girls were happily jumping rope. The sound of their laughter, like tinkling bells, attracted a little rabbit. The rabbit hid in the nearby grass, secretly watching. “Great! You’re jumping so well!” the rabbit couldn’t help but call out. The girls immediately stopped jumping and walked toward the grass. “Who’s calling? Why don’t you come out?” “Oh no, I’ve been discovered,” the rabbit thought, panicking and running away. The girls only saw a flash of white before it disappeared. “How strange! Who could it be?”
This rabbit, named Qiuzi, ran all the way home, panting as she told her mother, “Mom, I saw some girls jumping rope under a big tree.” “Jumping rope?” “Yes, Mom, I want to learn to jump rope too.” “You want to learn to jump rope?” Her mother laughed, “Child, don’t be silly. No rabbit has ever jumped rope.” “But I really want to learn,” Qiuzi insisted.
From then on, little Qiuzi watched the girls jump rope every day, observing carefully and memorizing their movements. However, watching alone wasn’t enough to learn to jump rope; she needed to practice a lot.
One day, Qiuzi dressed up like a human child and walked into a small shop. “Excuse me, do you sell ropes?” Qiuzi asked the elderly woman behind the counter in a soft voice. “Do you mean jump ropes?” the woman asked kindly, miming the action of jumping rope with her hands.
“Yes, yes, do you have any?” “Sorry, we don’t,” the woman shook her head and spread her hands, smiling apologetically. “You don’t?” Qiuzi sighed softly and walked out. “Wait a moment, this is my granddaughter’s jump rope. I’ll give it to you,” the woman said, coming out with a jump rope in her hands. “Give it to me? Really? Thank you so much!” Qiuzi said excitedly, bowing to the woman.
Qiuzi practiced jumping rope diligently. At first, she couldn’t jump well and often fell. Other rabbits laughed at her, saying, “What a funny rabbit!”
“Keep going, Qiuzi,” her mother, who initially opposed her jumping rope, now encouraged her daughter. Her mother’s words filled Qiuzi with confidence, and she practiced even harder.
Finally, Qiuzi learned to jump rope, able to jump dozens of times in a row. The rabbits who once mocked her now looked on in amazement.
One day, Qiuzi went to the big tree where she first saw the girls jumping rope. She swung the rope high and started jumping, counting out loud, “1, 2, 3, 4…” When she reached 100, applause erupted from behind the tree. It was the girls who came to jump rope, astonished to see a rabbit jumping so well.
Suddenly, one girl exclaimed, “That’s my jump rope! Did my grandma give it to a rabbit?” “Yes, yes, I’m so happy to see you!” Qiuzi bowed to the girl, smiling with her red, three-lobed mouth.
“1, 2, 3, 4, 5…” Under the big tree, Qiuzi and the girls joyfully jumped rope together.
