Porcupine Story: Classroom Incident

Mr. Porcupine was startled as soon as he entered the classroom.

On the blackboard, it read: “Spiky Monster!”

Furious, he pounded the desk and asked in a harsh voice, “Who did this foolish thing?”

A small squirrel timidly stood up.

A little hedgehog shamefully stood up.

“How could one sentence have been written by two people?” Mr. Porcupine asked, puzzled.

“The other sentence was erased by me,” the hedgehog said softly. “I wrote ‘Big-Tailed Bully!’ first, so the little squirrel wrote what’s on the blackboard. It was my fault to begin with.”

For some reason, Mr. Porcupine’s face turned red. He said, “Please forgive me. I thought this was written about me. How pitiful my suspicion was. Please forgive me.”

“But we were at fault,” the two students said in unison.

“Yes, scribbling on the blackboard is indeed wrong.” Mr. Porcupine looked seriously at the squirrel and the hedgehog. Then he added warmly, “But you corrected your mistake with courage. I still want to say:

— You are good children!”
