Polka the Monster’s Mothers
On a sunny morning, Turtle Mom hurried to the beach. Today, her babies were about to hatch!
The little turtles scrambled out of the sand nest one by one—one, two, three… all nine turtle babies had emerged. Just as Turtle Mom was about to lead her babies away, she suddenly noticed there was still one egg left in the nest, white and round.
“Strange, I clearly laid only nine eggs, so why is there one more?” thought Turtle Mom. “It must be some careless mother who laid her egg in my nest.”
Turtle Mom, feeling uneasy, decided to stay beside the egg. After a long while, a tiny creature emerged from the egg, with a big nose, small eyes, and a long tail.
The little one crawled to Turtle Mom and, along with the baby turtles, called out, “Mama! Mama!”
Turtle Mom decided to keep the little one and named him Polka.
Polka grew very fast. In no time, he was bigger than all the turtle babies and soon even outgrew Turtle Mom.
Unable to take care of Polka anymore, Turtle Mom sent him to Rabbit Mom’s house.
Polka played hide-and-seek, hopping around the forest with the rabbit babies, and when hungry, they would gather mushrooms to eat.
Polka kept growing, surpassing the rabbit babies, then Rabbit Mom, and soon he couldn’t even fit through the door of Rabbit Mom’s house.
Rabbit Mom sent Polka to Bear Mom’s house.
Polka and the bear cubs would climb trees to fetch honey, wrestle together, and see who was the strongest.
Polka grew even bigger, becoming stronger than all the bear cubs, and he could easily lift Bear Mom.
Bear Mom had no choice but to send Polka to Elephant Mom’s house.
Polka bathed with the baby elephants, strolled on the grassland with them, and played tug-of-war games.
Before long, Polka grew taller than Elephant Mom, so tall that anyone who looked at him had to tilt their head back.
One day, a man with a curly mustache came to the forest. He said he was from the Animal Protection Association and could take animals without parents to a beautiful big house where the association people would take care of them.
All the little animals in the forest thought of Polka: “Polka, you don’t have a father or a mother. You should go.”
Turtle Mom crawled over, angrily saying, “I am his mother!”
Rabbit Mom, Bear Mom, and Elephant Mom all rushed over, saying, “We are all Polka’s mothers!”
Polka, proudly said, “I have so many moms who love me. I am not going anywhere!”
