One Second of Romance

On the train, there was a mother and her son sitting together. As dusk approached, both the mother and son started to grow restless. The son pressed his face so hard against the window glass that it almost flattened, as he anxiously looked outside.

After a while, the rumbling sound of another train could be heard in the distance. The child, still glued to the window, shouted excitedly, “It’s here! It’s here! Daddy’s train is here!” The boy’s mother shifted her upper body, moving closer and closer to the window, pressing tightly against the glass. Suddenly, the entire carriage fell silent. The excited boy, whose body trembled with anticipation, pressed a drawing of a cake against the window. Next to the cake, there was a line of rosy-colored words: “Take care, my love!” With these four words, a wife expressed all of her longing and concern for her husband.

Soon, train T91 approached. In the fleeting moment when the two trains passed each other, I saw the boy waving the drawing and shouting “Daddy!” The woman, suppressing the urge to leap up, quietly stayed pressed against the window.

It truly was just a moment, a second, and the two trains—T91 and T79—completed their brief encounter. The boy, still brimming with excitement, pulled away from the window, while his mother remained stunned by the glass. The son suddenly hugged his mother and said, “I saw Daddy! Daddy smiled at me!” The mother simply smiled, nodding her head, silently telling her son that she had seen him too, and she was just as happy!

What kind of romance is more genuine, more moving, more earth-shattering? We’ve seen countless candlelit dinners and roses, yet they rarely move us or make our hearts feel grateful for love. But this one-second romance, so simple and ordinary, stirs deep longing within us. If I had a lover, I would be willing to give everything for this one second. Because having such a moment means that the heart is secure, love is reliable, and happiness rests in the palm of your hand.
