Little squirrel and the old witch

When the little squirrel was about to leave, Mother Squirrel said to him, “Play well in the tree and don’t be naughty. Recently, an old witch has come to the forest. If anyone misbehaves, the old witch will use a big bag to take away their tail.”

“Got it!” the little squirrel replied, running out the door.

The little squirrel started playing with the little gecko in the big tree.

The little squirrel picked some ripe hawthorn fruits and threw them at the little gecko like little stones. The little gecko also picked some hawthorn fruits and threw them back. The ground was covered with smashed hawthorn fruits.

“You are wasting hawthorn fruits and destroying the environment, so your tails will be taken away!” An old witch, riding a broom, appeared angrily in front of them. She held a big bag and took away the tails of the little squirrel and the little gecko.

“It’s okay, little gecko. It’s more comfortable without a tail,” the little squirrel said, touching the base of his tail.

“Exactly. Humans don’t have tails, and they are still the masters of the world,” the little gecko said indifferently.

Only half a day passed before the little squirrel no longer felt comfortable. He climbed trees to pick fruits, and several times he fell from the tree, getting bruises and bumps all over. Without a tail, it was hard for him to keep his balance.

The little squirrel went to the little gecko’s house and found the little gecko’s eyes were red.

“What happened, little gecko?” the little squirrel asked.

“Mom said that geckos’ tails can break off when they encounter enemies, confusing them and allowing us to escape. Now that the old witch took my tail, I’m in danger. Boohoo…” the little gecko said.

“Let’s go find the old witch and get our tails back,” the little squirrel said, holding the little gecko’s hand.

Passing through a wheat field, they found a little swallow without its scissor-like tail, hopping around on the ground.

“Little swallow, why aren’t you flying?” the little squirrel asked.

“I spoke bad words, and the old witch took my tail. Without my tail to steer, how can I fly?” the little swallow said, frowning.

“Let’s go find the old witch and get our tails back,” the little squirrel said.

Passing through a field, they found a little red horse without its tail, twisting its body as if in great discomfort.

“Little red horse, are you feeling unwell?” the little gecko asked.

“I spat everywhere, and the old witch took my tail. Without my tail to swat away mosquitoes and flies, I’m being bitten all over!” the little red horse said.

“Let’s go find the old witch and get our tails back,” the little gecko said.

They all lined up and went to find the old witch to get their tails back. They found the old witch sleeping on a water lily in the pond and collectively admitted their mistakes.

“Alright, since everyone knows their mistakes, and being able to correct them makes you good children, I’ll return your tails,” the old witch said, rubbing her sleepy eyes and opening her magic bag.

Long, short, thick, and thin tails instantly returned to the little animals.

“Great, our tails are finally back!” everyone cheered together
