Mysterious treasure map story

Every morning, Rabbit Samba goes to the riverside to exercise.

One day, while he was exercising on the grassy bank by the river, he noticed a bottle glinting in the sunlight near the shore. Upon closer inspection, he found that it was a bottle with a tightly sealed mouth, and through the glass, he could vaguely see something inside.

“This is a message in a bottle,” Rabbit Samba muttered to himself. “There must be some secret inside!”

Samba struggled to open the cork and found a piece of paper inside the bottle. He took out the paper and saw the words “Treasure Map” written in large characters.

“I’ve found a mysterious treasure map!” Rabbit Samba exclaimed in surprise.

Samba carefully read the treasure map. It depicted a map with two old camphor trees, which Samba instantly recognized as being on the hillside not far from there. The map indicated that if one walked five hundred meters east from the large camphor trees, there would be a hidden cave with treasure deep inside.

It was signed by “Old Otter, the Treasure Hider.” Samba recalled that someone had mentioned a bandit named One-Eyed Otter who lived a hundred years ago and plundered countless treasures. But how did this One-Eyed Otter manage to place the treasure map in this bottle?

Samba turned the treasure map over and over for a long time, and then he couldn’t help but laugh.

Samba put the paper back into the bottle and then stepped out of the grass. Just then, he saw an old wolf swaggering over from a distance. Samba placed the bottle not far from the shore.

The old wolf came over and immediately spotted the bottle. He opened the bottle and, seeing the map, exclaimed, “It’s my turn to get rich!”

The old wolf hurried home, grabbed a sack, and eagerly headed for the cave.

Samba quietly followed the old wolf.

He saw the old wolf sneakily enter the cave, and shortly after, he heard loud noises coming from inside. It turned out that the wolf had ventured deep into the cave and suddenly encountered an ambush in the pitch darkness, not knowing who was attacking him. He thought he had come across other treasure hunters, and they started wrestling fiercely.

After a long while, Samba saw two figures emerge from the cave: one was a limping fox, and the other was the old wolf with a crooked mouth.

The bright sunlight outside the cave made them squint.

Rabbit Samba stood on a distant high slope and said to the wolf and the fox:

“Mr. Fox, you shouldn’t have drawn a treasure map on paper that was produced just last year; the One-Eyed Otter from a hundred years ago wouldn’t have had such paper. As for you, Mr. Old Wolf, your trip wasn’t in vain. Congratulations on finding the real treasure in the cave—a big trickster, Mr. Fox, who always tries to deceive others!”
