Mouse Stories: Little Gray Mouse’s Heart

Little White Mouse has a grandmother who knows magic. When she was young, her grandmother always brought her a lot of joy. Every year, Little White Mouse’s grandmother would send a crow to deliver a letter, inviting her for tea. This morning, Little White Mouse received another letter from the crow. Little Gray Mouse found out and said to Little White Mouse, “Why don’t I accompany you? I can protect you along the way.”

However, Little White Mouse thought that if her grandmother hadn’t invited Little Gray Mouse, it would be best if Little Gray Mouse didn’t go, because her magical grandmother had a strange temper.

Little Gray Mouse had to stay behind alone. Little White Mouse promised him that she would take good care of herself and remember to bring back a piece of cake. Then she set off by herself.

The sun was scorching along the way, but a small cloud floated above Little White Mouse’s head, following her wherever she went.

When Little White Mouse stopped to rest, it would fly down from the sky and rest on her knee. When Little White Mouse tried to catch it, it would playfully slip away. Even more amazing was that when a big cat appeared, the cloud turned into a thick fog and wrapped around Little White Mouse.

This way, the big cat couldn’t see Little White Mouse. This little white cloud was truly magical, but Little White Mouse wasn’t surprised, because fun things always happened on the way to her grandmother’s magical house.

When she arrived at her grandmother’s house, Little White Mouse wanted to say goodbye to the little white cloud, but it followed her inside. Maybe it belonged to her grandmother, Little White Mouse thought.

Little White Mouse asked her grandmother if the cloud was hers. Her grandmother said it was Little White Mouse’s. This cloud was actually a heart, a good friend’s heart.

Little White Mouse said, “But it looks like a cloud.”

“Yes, it is indeed a heart, because all hearts like to disguise themselves as something else. It can’t escape my magical eyes,” said her grandmother. “Little Gray Mouse is so wonderful. I really hope to have such a friendship.”
