Motivational story for kids: The Star Laces
A small cat asked a big mouse, “Have you heard of the Star Boutique?”
The big mouse replied, “No, I haven’t.”
“They sell items once used by celebrities.”
“Did you buy something from that shop?”
“Yes!”
The small cat took out a piece of paper and showed it to the big mouse.
The paper read:
“Sunny to partly cloudy, with a chance of hail. Northeast wind shifting to southwest wind, 9-10 on the Beaufort scale.
Highest temperature: 40°C, lowest temperature: 0°C.”
The big mouse said, “This is a weather report!”
The small cat said, “Ms. Parrot is my favorite entertainment show host, but she started as a weather presenter. She held this paper while memorizing lines outside the studio. Big mouse, touch it and see if you can feel the warmth Ms. Parrot left behind.”
The big mouse touched the paper and honestly replied, “I can’t feel anything.”
“You shouldn’t be able to,” the small cat said, “because you’re not a die-hard fan of Ms. Parrot.”
“A ‘die-hard fan’? What’s that?”
“It means ‘a super fan.'”
The small cat asked the big mouse, “Do you have a favorite celebrity?”
“Yes,” said the big mouse, “Mr. Gorilla, the long-distance running champion, is my idol.”
“Then you should definitely visit the Star Boutique. You’ll surely find a souvenir that’ll make you ecstatic.”
The big mouse followed the small cat to the Star Boutique.
The crocodile shopkeeper was enthusiastically attending to customers who had come from afar. He asked the small monkey, “Which celebrity do you like?”
The small monkey said, “I like the martial arts star, Mr. Mandrill.”
The crocodile shopkeeper rummaged through his treasure chest and pulled out half a tooth: “Mr. Mandrill chipped this tooth while performing a dangerous stunt in the movie Skyscraper Showdown. He insisted on not using a stunt double. This tooth is very valuable because Mr. Mandrill never chipped another tooth in any of his films.”
“But,” the small monkey said, “whether in movies or photos, Mr. Mandrill’s teeth always look perfectly fine!”
“Oh, that’s because,” the crocodile shopkeeper explained, “after chipping the tooth, Mr. Mandrill immediately had it repaired. He couldn’t neglect his image!”
So the small monkey bought the half-tooth and happily left.
The small cat said to the crocodile shopkeeper, “I brought my friend here. His favorite celebrity is Mr. Gorilla.”
The crocodile shopkeeper asked, “The long-distance running champion?”
“Yes,” said the big mouse.
The crocodile shopkeeper rummaged through his treasure chest again and found two shoelaces: “These are Mr. Gorilla’s shoelaces.”
The big mouse asked, “Do these shoelaces have a story?”
“Of course,” said the crocodile shopkeeper. “These are the shoelaces Mr. Gorilla wore when he won his first world championship.”
The small cat said, “What a meaningful keepsake!”
So the big mouse bought Mr. Gorilla’s shoelaces.
Being a long-distance running enthusiast, the big mouse wore Mr. Gorilla’s shoelaces during a race.
When his opponents found out where the shoelaces came from, they were all envious.
The gun fired, and the race began.
The big mouse felt that his feet were different from usual; the more he ran, the more powerful they felt.
The last race’s champion was Officer Leopard, and once again, he was temporarily leading. But seeing the big mouse gaining on him, he wondered to himself: “Do those shoelaces really have magical powers?”
As he wondered, Officer Leopard lost a bit of his drive, and the big mouse soon overtook him.
The big mouse won the race.
In subsequent races, the big mouse continued to win. Of course, he never forgot to wear Mr. Gorilla’s shoelaces, and each time, they made his opponents secretly wonder.
The big mouse told the small cat, “Other competitors keep telling the referee that there’s something wrong with my shoelaces, but the referee never finds any issues when he checks them.”
The small cat laughed, “If they can’t find anything, that’s the real magic!”
One day, the big mouse and the small cat passed by the Star Boutique again.
They saw the crocodile shopkeeper take out two shoelaces and heard him say to a customer, “These shoelaces have a story. Mr. Gorilla wore them when he won his first world championship.”
“Mr. Gorilla couldn’t possibly have worn two pairs of shoes with four shoelaces during the race,” the big mouse said to the small cat. “I must have bought a fake.”
The small cat was stunned, “So, it’s possible I bought a fake too.”
They were both angry, but then the small cat suddenly said, “But your championship was real! It shows you have real strength—you don’t need magic to win!”
