Moral Stories for Kid: Caterpillar and Beetle
In a garden full of blooming flowers, there were all kinds of plants. A little caterpillar was busy nibbling on leaves, carrying them back to his home. He worked tirelessly until noon. After having a hearty lunch, the little caterpillar felt a bit sleepy, but he didn’t stop working, just moving slower each time.
While the little caterpillar was working, he accidentally bumped into a small beetle who was resting. The beetle was extremely angry, “Get away from me, you filthy thing! I only like to play with beautiful and elegant insects.”
“But I am a beautiful insect too,” the little caterpillar suddenly woke up. “My mother is the most beautiful butterfly in the garden!”
The beetle retorted, “Stop lying. How could an ugly caterpillar like you be a butterfly’s child?”
The beetle turned around, showing off his shiny back, “Look how beautiful and elegant I am!” With that, he shook the leaf vigorously and knocked the caterpillar off.
The little caterpillar continued nibbling and carrying leaves until it got dark. However, the beetle slept lazily every day.
Day by day, it got colder, the flowers and leaves in the garden withered, and the butterflies hid away. The garden was no longer as lively.
During his last round of carrying leaves, the little caterpillar encountered the small beetle again. This time, the beetle was shivering with cold, no longer as proud and haughty as before.
The little caterpillar felt sorry for him and led him to his home, letting the beetle stay there while he hid away to start spinning a cocoon. With food, the beetle lived comfortably, but he was a bit puzzled—where had that ugly caterpillar gone?
After some time, the plants started to bud again. Spring had arrived, and the garden became lively with insects once more.
One day, as the beetle was looking out of the window, watching the hustle and bustle, a beautiful butterfly suddenly flew out from the caterpillar’s hole.
The beetle quickly asked, “Who are you? How did you get into the little caterpillar’s home?”
The butterfly smiled and said, “I am that ugly little caterpillar. After spinning my cocoon over the winter, I have finally become a beautiful butterfly like my mother. Now, can we play together?”
The beetle blushed. He realized he shouldn’t have despised the caterpillar and judged others by their appearance. So he said, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”
“It’s okay, as long as you change.”
So, they flew around the garden playing together.
